Why Coach Zorn Was Right for Leaving Jason Campbell in

Josh McCainOct 5, 2009

After watching the first half of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Washington Redskins, I wondered how Jim Zorn could leave Jason Campbell in the game after a fumble and two interceptions?

Jason's quarterback ranking for the first half was 18.1.

The second half began with cornerback Donte Hall intercepting a wayward Josh Johnson throw.

I expected to see Todd Collins lead the offense on the field.  I mean, Andy Reid has never been afraid to sit Donovan McNabb, so, really, anything goes.

Zorn didn't sit Jason.  He stuck with his guy.  For better or worse, both of their futures in Washington will be linked together.

The turnovers were bad, but you have to give credit where credit is due.  The Tampa defence actually resembled something of the team that won the Super Bowl not too long ago and their coverage was smothering.

Honestly, I don't think Todd Collins could have done much better than Campbell.

In fact, it was Campbell scrambling for a couple of key first downs that allowed the Redskins to win.  Collins certainly could not have done that.

You are judged by wins and loses in this league, not should haves and would haves.  If Campbell would have continued his poor play of the first half the Skins would have lost to another win-less team every sports writer in D.C. would be coming out of the woodwork to second guess the coach.

They didn't lose though, and for sticking with his QB Coach Zorn's hot seat may have cooled off a tiny bit, well for this week at least.
