Chelsea Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Thorgan Hazard and David Luiz
Chelsea have reportedly been left disappointed after Borussia Monchengladbach informed the west Londoners they have no buy-back clause in Thorgan Hazard's contract. Meanwhile, it's been revealed David Luiz was the main instigator behind his Chelsea return.
Reports emerged this week claiming the Blues had a buy-back option to bring Hazard, younger brother of Chelsea winger Eden, back to Stamford Bridge. However, Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl informed German daily Express otherwise (h/t Metro's Chris Davie):
"There is no clause. There is also no deadline for anything.
I don’t want to comment on any elements of the contract [but] we also don’t need to make any secrets about it: If we get a top player from Chelsea, then of course Chelsea also have the opportunity, in any form whatsoever, to think about them for themselves again – but they haven’t actively done so!

Davie noted reports regarding a buy-back stated Chelsea had until December 31 to activate the clause, but Eberl appeared confident the Premier League giants don't have that much say in the matter.
Hazard departed Stamford Bridge on permanent terms in the summer of 2015 after failing to make a senior appearance for Chelsea, and German football writer Clark Whitney hinted the Blues may regret their sale:
It's been a whirlwind season for the second-oldest Hazard brother already, and Gladbach will be eager to hand onto a player who has provided a huge spark in their attack.
Kristof Terreur of Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws also provided quotes from the attacking midfielder, who confirmed his London-based sibling is also wary of his quick progress in the Bundesliga:
Closer to home, Luiz's agent has confirmed the centre-back himself pushed for a west London comeback this past summer after hearing his former employers wanted him back from Paris Saint-Germain.
Kia Joorabchian told Goal just how prominent a figure Luiz was in sanctioning a £32 million return to the club he departed in 2014 (h/t Metro's Michael Cantillon):
"It came around quite late in the day, it was a late deal, but it wasn’t that late.
It was in the last few days of the window, but I think that before that it was very much on the cards.
The move was David’s doing because I don’t think that PSG wanted to sell David, but he wanted to come to Chelsea, for sure. When Chelsea made a move for him, it was the end of the story.
"
Joorabchian went on to describe Luiz as "one of the top defenders in the world," and yet Chelsea manager Antonio Conte hasn't seen an improvement in results since the Brazilian completed a deadline day deal.
What's more, Match of the Day pundit and former Premier League striker Dion Dublin doesn't appear to be among the centre-back's biggest fans:
Luiz was a fan favourite during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, and fans are sure to appreciate the news that he was a key figure in pushing for a second tenure in west London.
That being said, with John Terry approaching 36 years of age and Chelsea's defence looking shaky, supporters at Stamford Bridge may hold their breath before they offer their star too much praise too quickly.
