Mets' James Loney Demonstrably Drops Bat After Hitting Go-Ahead HR vs. Phillies
James Loney doesn't get many chances to celebrate a home run. After hitting his ninth of the season in a pivotal game for the New York Mets, he relished the moment.
In the top of the sixth inning during Saturday's showdown against the Philadelphia Phillies, the light-hitting first baseman broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run blast. The Mets went on to win 5-3.
Before rounding the bases, he raised his arms, turned to catcher Cameron Rupp and dropped the bat in style.
Even though the 32-year-old broke baseball's stringent code, consider the circumstances. The victory punched the Mets' ticket into the National League Wild Card Game on Wednesday. Loney also entered the day sporting a putrid .638 second-half OPS and has Lucas Duda looking to reclaim his starting job after missing time because of injury.
Let him enjoy this.
