Penn State's Beaver Stadium Deemed Clear by Police After Apparent Threat
Penn State's Beaver Stadium was declared clear by police following a "potential threat," according to the school's athletic department.
The school's statement said, "Police have conducted several exhaustive searches of the facility and surrounding areas, and have found no evidence of a potential risk," and ensured fans that safety remains Penn State's top priority.
David Gray, the school's senior vice president for finance and business, released the following statement when the announcement was made:
"Out of an abundance of caution we are notifying fans and the public of the threat that was received, so that they can make their own choices about personal safety and their attendance at today's game. Our first obligation is to the safety of the public and, while police and safety officials have given an all-clear for today's game, we wanted to ensure that visitors were aware of this decision.
"
Citing Penn State's crime log, the Morning Call's Mark Wogenrich reported "a visitor reported possible criminal trespassing and suspicious activity at Beaver Stadium at 4:15 a.m."
The Nittany Lions are scheduled to host the Minnesota Golden Gophers at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
