Kicks Report: 10 Fall Sneakers Worth Keeping on Your Radar
Welcome to Bleacher Report's fall kicks report. A place where you get to check out and comment on 10 kicks we have deemed worthy of keeping on your radar.
With temperatures dipping and cold weather starting to creep in, the sneaker game has started to morph. Fall has traditionally been a time when muted colors and darker tones outweigh lighter shades. On top of this, retro sneakers are also released to coincide with the end of the year.
Footwear manufacturers like Nike, Adidas, Jordan Brand and Under Armour are geared up and ready to flood retail stores with a convoy of tech-forward and stylish kicks.
With fall in full swing, here are 10 kicks worth keeping on your radar.
Adidas Ultra Boost Uncaged 'Triple Black 2.0'
1 of 10Adidas' Ultra Boost revolution has reached critical mass. Besides the traditional caged design consumers have become enamored with, the three-stripe machine has also gone rogue in the form of an uncaged model.
Simply removing the cage—a process first started by sneaker customizers like T Blake—totally altered the DNA of the shoe.
With the uncaged models starting to pick up steam, Adidas has decided to push forth with a "Triple Black 2.0" iteration.
The shoe looks astoundingly cool. Unlike the 1.0, this version is more tonal. Instead of black molding, the 2.0 features a medley of gray, white and black. This presents the sneaker in a more robust, wearable way, instead of leaning on one dominant color.
Right now, we're looking at a Nov. 1 drop, per Sole Collector. Adidas fans will have to be quick, as inventory of these kicks tends to dissipate quickly.
Air Jordan XII 'Wool'
2 of 10
Fall means warmer layers of clothing and darker, more decisive tones. In Jordan Brand's world, this concept has taken flight in the form of an Air Jordan XII.
The "Wool" design, releasing Saturday, removes the traditional leather exterior and replaces it with a monotone, wool base. It's a bold leap from any of the previous Air Jordan XIIs released this past year.
There is a bit of good news when it comes to fans of the more classic look. The use of leather doesn't totally evade this sneaker. The toe box and midsole just so happen to be saturated with a vintage leather overlay.
Structurally it's a sound shoe, despite being more flexible than a rigid, tumbled-leather frame.
With a $200 price tag, watch out Saturday for the Air Jordan XII "Wool" to touch shelves.
Nike HyperAdapt 1.0
3 of 10Have you ever wanted to feel like Marty McFly? Well, Nike has finally given you the chance to live like you're an extra in Back to the Future Part II with the release of a self-lacing sneaker, dubbed the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0.
"The shoe translates deep research in digital, electrical and mechanical engineering into a product designed for movement," News.Nike.com explained. As the video posted above makes note of, the shoe conforms to one's foot, thanks to an adaptive lacing system.
Sculpted more like a runner, this sneaker has a chance to be worn in a social capacity rather than be deemed a technological experiment. It's not a bulky, out-of-date design. The shoe shines with Tinker Hatfield's guiding hand, making it a wearable piece of tech.
Nov. 28 is when we can expect the first variant of this HyperAdapt model to blow the minds of consumers. Too bad a price hasn't been released yet.
Air Jordan XII 'OVO'
4 of 10
Drake and Jordan Brand are back, this time engaging the population with the ever-popular Air Jordan XII. Based on the pair's last collaboration—a crispy Air Jordan X, dropped both in black and white colorways—we sort of know what to expect with this edition.
Materials are never lacking. Jordan Brand pushes forward using premium leather to marinate the base of the shoe. From top to bottom, very few Jordan releases are going to rival these kicks in terms of quality and contextual layering.
The shoe also provides a deeper visual experience, starting with gold accents and a translucent sole and ending with Drake's patented OVO signature branding.
Akin to the "OVO" Xs, the XIIs should prove to be a hasty seller. Set for Saturday, people looking to add these to their collection should be ready to unleash their cash on Nike's SNKRS app.
Air Jordan I 'Reverse Shattered Backboard'
5 of 10The immortal Air Jordan I returns Oct. 8 in the form of a "Reverse Shattered Backboard." As a follow-up to the original Jordan I "Shattered Backboard," released in June 2015, this refreshed orange-and-white approach continues the use of an already successful color scheme.
Jordan's retro market isn't producing constant sellouts anymore, as Josh Luber of StockX reported. But certain pairs have become immune to the idea. Following in the footsteps of the Air Jordan I "Banned," the "Reverse Shattered Backboard" has a shot to keep the I's sellout streak alive.
Based on its appearance, the "Reverse Shattered Backboard" reflects not only the original "Shattered Backboard," but also the Air Jordan I "Chicago." Rather than having a red overlay to prop up the shoe, orange hues were used as the main option.
If you can somehow get your hands on a pair, these sneakers should make for a must-have fall footwear choice.
Offspring X Adidas NMD
6 of 10Adidas deserves a lot of credit for working with retail stores and boutiques in a collaborative way. One of the cleanest examples of this comes to life as the Adidas x Offspring BMD "20th Anniversary" has finally been released.
The look was conceived from British culture and fashion trends in the mid-1990s, as the Instagram post above highlights. It was also the year the Offspring store first opened to the public.
Offspring has remained prevalent in British fashion for 20 years now, pushing sneakers to the forefront. Using the popular NMD as a base for their anniversary project was a unique way to tie past trends with modern-day ambitions.
Rather than focus on a traditional NMD approach, Offspring decided to use leather and Nubuck materials to glaze the shoe. It gives the NMD a tougher, more weathered look.
Those who want a pair will have to stick to all Offspring retail platforms and hope for a chance. Of all the NMD drops, this collaborative effort oozes all things fall.
Air Jordan III 'True Blue'
7 of 10It's time to rejoice, Jordan fans. Because Jordan Brand is finally bringing back the Air Jordan III "True Blue."
Representing an all-time classic cut, this sneaker embodies a historical moment when Nike saved the empire. In 1988, Tinker Hatfield was brought on to revamp the Jordan signature line. His hopes of retooling the shoe came in the form of an Air Jordan III and the design was responsible for a multiyear relationship with No. 23.
The "True Blue" design wasn't an original copy. It was actually first released in 2001. Nevertheless, this sneaker has continued to dazzle because of its minimal design and timeless colorway.
Keep an eye out on Black Friday—Nov. 25—as Jordan Brand has plans to flood the market with a "True Blue" wave.
Under Armour Curry 3 'Black Taxi'
8 of 10You know we had to give you a little dose of on-court loving. Enough of the vanity kicks. It's time for Stephen Curry's return.
Under Armour's coveted Curry series continues with the Curry 3 "Black Taxi" on Oct. 27. The shoe, built with UA's customary high-top backing, will look to build on the highly respected Curry 2.
Based on its appearance, it looks like Under Armour has gone all out in the comfort department. According to Wear Testers, the shoe has already been laced with extensive cushioning and an all-encompassing herringbone traction system—good news for basketball lovers.
We're going to have to wait and see what's next. But at first glimpse, the Curry 3 "Black Taxi" looks like a beautiful, hype-driven continuation of one of Under Armour's most successful footwear endeavors.
Air Jordan III 'Cyber Monday'
9 of 10If you thought the Air Jordan III "True Blue" was the only thing popping off Black Friday weekend, you were misinformed.
Cyber Monday has become a time when Jordan Brand releases specialized versions of their most famous silhouettes. In the name of all things digital retail, the Air Jordan III "Cyber Monday" was built to take on this year's event.
Similar to last year's Air Jordan I, the "Cyber Monday" III will be released in a conventional black-and-white colorway. Unlike the "True Blue," or any other Jordan release this fall, what's telling about this shoe is the minimalistic approach it has taken. A complete black coating drenches everything minus the sole, which is presented in a gleaming white shade.
Kicks enthusiasts searching for a classic piece to add into their collections should be all over the Air Jordan III "Cyber Monday," releasing Nov. 28.
Air Jordan I 'Black Toe'
10 of 10We end our fall kicks report with a classic: The Air Jordan I "Black Toe."
First hitting retail entities in 1985, the "Black Toe" came off as a beautiful take on Jordan's time with the Bulls. Besides the "Banned" I, it's feasible to think the "Black Toe" could be the most recognizable sneaker released in '85.
Nike's ongoing decision to play the retro game has given sneakerheads an opportunity to capture a modified version of the "Black Toe" I come November. The sneaker, due to its eternal nature, is a must-own for any fans of Jordan Brand.
Mix in premium leather, which takes control of the shoe, and what you have is a sneaker primed and ready for fall. Be on the lookout for an official release date from Jordan Brand. Because these kicks are bound to sell quickly, thanks to their historic nature.
