Marvin Jones, Matthew Stafford Post-Week 3 Fantasy Advice

Tyler ConwaySep 25, 2016

The Green Bay Packers' huge offensive first half put the Detroit Lions running game on ice, but Detroit's passing game came through with a huge effort Sunday.

Matthew Stafford recorded his second 300-yard game of the season, and Marvin Jones broke out for a career day as the Lions nearly came back before falling 34-27. Stafford finished with 385 yards and three touchdowns, while Jones set a career high with 205 yards and two scores.

Here is a look at how Sunday's performances will affect their fantasy values going forward.

Matthew Stafford

It's always shaky assessing stats that were put up in a comeback effort, but Stafford's nonetheless reached every-week-start status. He's averaging 40 pass attempts per game, seems comfortable in offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter's scheme and hasn't missed Calvin Johnson as much as expected following the superstar's retirement.

Last week's weird performance against a bad Tennessee Titans defense was concerning, but feel free to deploy Stafford going forward. The Lions' only semi-difficult matchup in the next four weeks is against the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 16. Stafford should pick up two or three more 300-yard games before an Oct. 30 matchup against the Houston Texans presents an issue.

Marvin Jones

Three weeks in, we have our answer: Jones, not Golden Tate, is the Megatron replacement in Detroit. The offseason signee seems at home in Detroit's offense and is quickly approaching WR1 status. Jones, who is averaging more than nine targets per game and has caught 14 passes over the last two weeks, has Stafford's trust underneath and over the top.

There's not much to quibble about here. Jones is the top receiver in a pass-heavy offense. Keep him in your lineup going forward, barring an injury.
