It appears the 76-year-old coach wants to experience basketball at just about every level before he retires.
Baumbach reported that Brown has expressed interest in a vacancy at East Hampton High School in Long Island, New York, where he has owned a home for more than a decade.
"In fairness to Larry, he has maintained that he's not sure, but that if he does do it, he wants to be in it 100 percent," athletic director Joe Vasile-Cozzo said. "And I'm like, 'Whatever works for you, we're game.'"
Kevin Maher of News12 Long Island reported that the veteran coach is planning to meet with the East Hampton High School players Tuesday night.
Brown is already one of the most well-traveled coaches in history, spending four seasons in the ABA and 26 seasons in the NBA, coaching for 11 different professional organizations in that span. He also coached at UCLA and Kansas for a combined seven years, eventually returning to the college ranks to work at SMU in 2012.
He has both an NBA championship (2004 Detroit Pistons) and an NCAA title (1988 Kansas Jayhawks) and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.
While he has had success on the court at SMU, including a 25-5 record last season, off-field issues have hurt the program. The NCAA sanctioned the school for academic fraud and unethical conduct, resulting in a postseason ban and suspension for Brown.
