Recap
James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema scored the goals for Real, who were far from their best against a tricky Espanyol side. Real used their individual quality to decide the match with two flashes.
First, Rodriguez slid past two defenders and unleashed a great shot from long range to beat goalkeeper Diego Lopez just before half-time. Team-mate Gareth Bale was impressed:
In the second half, Lucas Vazquez went on a nice run before teeing up Benzema perfectly with a sensational cross. The Frenchman didn't make a mistake from close range.

The win means Los Blancos maintain the top spot in the standings as the only team with a perfect record, sitting three points ahead of Barcelona and a surprising Las Palmas team. Los Amarillos have one of the biggest home advantages in LaLiga due to the distance to the mainland, with two of their three wins coming at home.
Aduriz was once again Athletic's hero, securing three points with a brace after Alvaro Medran gave Valencia an early lead. Per Bleacher Report UK, the veteran's scoring record remains impressive:
The Basques were almost upset by a slumping Valencia side, but after another defeat, things are looking very bleak for Los Che. Valencia is the only club remaining without a single point to their tally four matches into the season, and their level of play has been abysmal.
Per La Liga blogger Sergi Dominguez, there are few signs of imminent improvement:
Rivals Villarreal fared much better Sunday, riding summer signing Sansone to a win over Real Sociedad. The Italian scored twice in quick succession, including a masterful strike from close to the midfield line.
Yahoo Sports UK's Andrew Gaffney loved it:
La Real hit back through Yuri Berchiche, but a win never seemed likely, particularly after Joseba Zaldua was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Osasuna and Celta Vigo served up a drab, goalless draw in Sunday's opening match that won't do either side any good. Both teams look like early candidates for relegation, although the Galicians are expected to discover their form soon enough.
