Jim Harbaugh Discusses Colorado's Fictional Depth Chart Entering Week 3 Matchup

Rob GoldbergSep 15, 2016

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh doesn't think messing with the depth chart is funny, even if the rest of the country does.

"In our preparation for Colorado we've had a hard time working humor into the preparations," the coach told Detroit's 97.1 FM (via Dan Murphy of ESPN.com). "I was trying to imagine how many people sat around and how many hours they worked on that."

The depth chart Colorado released for Saturday's game at Michigan didn't contain any actual players on it, instead featuring a combination of fictional characters, politicians, basketball players and more:

As explained in the tweet, the reason for the mock listing was Michigan's refusal to release its depth chart. Harbaugh believes publicizing a depth chart is outdated in today's age of media coverage.

"There's so much written about the team that's on the internet," Harbaugh said, per Murphy. "For those of us who can or do watch the games, they're all on television now as well. We just felt like modern technology was the most accurate way of knowing what the opponent's depth chart is by looking at the previous week's film. Not relying on another PR director's assessment of what the depth chart is."

Colorado's sports information director, Dave Plati, took this as reason enough to come out with his own version of the Buffaloes' depth chart.

Although fake, a defense that features Bill Walton, The Dude, James Bond and Peter Griffin would be entertaining.

The Wolverines host Colorado on Saturday at Michigan Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET. Both teams come into the game 2-0 after blowout wins in the first two weeks, creating an exciting battle regardless of what the depth charts read.
