The NFL said it is investigating a couple of exchanges between officials and players on Sunday.

The league said that it is looking into an exchange between an official and Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride from Sunday's 36-24 win for the New York Giants, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter relayed that the league is also probing an exchange that saw referee Adrian Hill being clearly angry with Eric Wilson after the Minnesota Vikings linebacker inadvertently knocked him over.

Following the referee's exchange with McBride, the NFLPA's executive director, JC Tretter, publicly called for accountability.

"This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable," Tretter said on social media. "Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard."

CBS Sports' Aditi Kinkhabwala noted that McBride was polite when starting the exchange, even using the word "please." She added that the harshest thing McBride said was, "You're ruining the game."

Those two exchanges weren't the only interactions involving an official, however.

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was hit with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for using some colorful language, a ruling that surprised him.

"I told him it was a terrible—I'm not going to say effing—call," Vrabel told reporters. "I've said that 87 times since I've been a head coach. It was nothing derogatory. You'd have to ask him. I think he was a little sensitive."

The relationship between officials and both players and coaches is always a bit charged. But on Sunday it seemed even more confrontational than usual.
