7 Match Stipulations WWE Should Never Use Again
Over the years, WWE has utilized countless different stipulations for its matches, but many of them are outdated or inappropriate in today's environment.
Sasha Banks talked about the infamous Bra and Panties matches of the Attitude Era during her fake retirement promo on Raw, making sure to mention how degrading they were to the talents who were performing in them.
This kind of controversial bout will never happen in a PG environment, but WWE should consider retiring other match types too.
This slideshow will look at seven different kinds of matches and why they should no longer take place in WWE. This isn't a ranked list, so the placement of each match doesn't matter.
Bra and Panties
1 of 7Sasha Banks gave a great promo on Raw where she talked about how far the women have come in WWE, and one of the things she specifically mentioned is how there are no more Bra and Panties matches.
However, this doesn't mean WWE will never use the stipulation again. We all know Vince McMahon can change his mind about almost anything at any given moment.
But Banks was right. Those Bra and Panties, Evening Gown and Lingerie matches were a low point in women's wrestling, and they should never be used again.
The Attitude Era was a different time. WWE was trying to appeal to men more than anything, so the company figured getting the women as close to naked as possible was a good idea.
The hormonal teenagers at home probably loved it, but the risque nature of the product likely kept a lot of women from watching the show.
Considering WWE has removed every one of these bouts from its YouTube channel, it's safe to assume they are done for the time being.
Tuxedo
2 of 7The Tuxedo match was just like a Bra and Panties match, except guys tried to rip each other's clothes off instead of women.
It may have been funny to see Harvey Wippleman and Howard Finkel engage in one in WCW, but this is another stipulation WWE should never use again.
The last time we saw one was in 2012 when Santino Marella defeated Ricardo Rodriguez. Even the comedic talents of both men couldn't stop it from being terrible.
These bouts have been few and far between in WWE, but the company should release an official edict saying this stipulation has gone the way of the dodo.
However, everyone should take the time to watch Paul Heyman and Jim Cornette's tuxedo match from The Great American Bash 1989.
Inferno
3 of 7The Inferno match was a cool idea, but WWE never executed it in a way that will make fans ever want to see one again.
Every single time WWE has had one of these bouts, Kane or The Undertaker has been involved. Once they are retired, WWE should also retire the match type.
Not only did the rig used for the match make it harder to see what was going on in the ring, but it also confined Superstars to the squared circle most of the time.
Also, trying to literally set someone on fire probably isn't the best message to send to the young audience in a PG environment.
Anything on a Pole
4 of 7Whether it's a flag, a sock full of quarters or Judy Bagwell, matches featuring something on a pole never end up being good.
The worst part is whenever someone goes to retrieve whatever item is hanging in a corner, all of a sudden, he moves slower than a snail in syrup.
It's a terrible stipulation to begin with, but it's usually made worse by whatever useless item is placed on the pole for someone to recover.
We already have ladders if WWE wants something suspended above the ring. The Something on a Pole match is like the inbred cousin of the ladder match.
Ambulance
5 of 7A few ambulance matches have been entertaining over the years, but no more so than any other bout with a hardcore stipulation.
Whether it's an ambulance or a hearse, having to put your opponent inside a vehicle to win has never seemed like a good idea.
WWE has used this stipulation just a handful of times, so obviously it isn't one fans are clamoring for at every pay-per-view.
It's great to see WWE trying to come up with new concepts to keep the product fresh, but not every idea is a winner. Someone should have nixed this idea before it ever became a reality.
TLC Matches Without Anything Hanging from the Ceiling
6 of 7What's the point of a ladder match variation if nothing is hanging above the ring for someone to take down? It's the only way to ruin one of the best stipulations WWE has.
Having a TLC match without a title or object hanging above the ring is no different than a Hardcore, Extreme Rules or No Disqualification match.
People can use anything they want as a weapon anyway, so there is no point in highlighting the three specific weapons involved in the match.
This has happened only twice in the history of TLC matches: Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt and Hornswoggle vs. El Torito. Let's hope it never happens again.
Buried Alive
7 of 7Like the Casket match, the Buried Alive stipulation will forever be associated with The Undertaker and to a lesser extent Kane.
In fact, all five times a Buried Alive match has taken place, The Undertaker has been involved. Seeing as he will probably never have one of these bouts again, WWE should do away with the idea completely.
For one thing, the idea of burying someone alive is about as violent as it gets when it comes to pretending to kill someone on live television.
Like the Inferno match, when The Undertaker decides to hang up his boots, WWE should get rid of this match type altogether. Otherwise, it would feel like someone was trying to copy Taker, and that never works out.
Which stipulations do you want to see WWE get rid of for good?
