WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from August 29

Erik BeastonAug 30, 2016

For over a year, Kevin Owens established himself as one of the best wrestlers in WWE with a never-ending string of show-stealing matches and a captivating personality rife with sarcasm and an overabundance of confidence.

Monday night, months of hard work and dedication culminated in Owens' first heavyweight championship, as he pinned Seth Rollins to become WWE universal champion following a shocking return by Triple H, who betrayed his former protege.

Looking at Owens as if to say he is now the chosen one, Triple H handed the opportunity over to the Quebecois, who jumped on it and left with the gold.

Now apparently aligned with The Game, expect Owens' role on Monday nights to expand significantly. Long one of the hardest workers on the roster, The Prizefighter has earned the championship he now holds, and fans know it.

Chants of "You deserve it!" rained down from the stands Monday night as he celebrated what had to be the greatest moment of his professional career. After years of being criticized for not having the look of a star or the ability to succeed in WWE, he silenced all doubters and now stands atop the wrestling world as its champion.

Winner: Big Cass

He may have been the first eliminated, but Big Cass proved himself capable of delivering under the brightest lights against three of the best wrestlers on the planet Monday night in the Fatal 4-Way Elimination match for the WWE Universal Championship.

His timing was impeccable, his ability to keep up with the frenetic pace cut by his opponents was outstanding and, in the end, he suggested to the WWE Universe that he could thrive in that position.

Now the question becomes whether WWE is going to stick with his brilliant, energetic, fun-loving team with Enzo Amore or split Cass away to achieve bigger and better things on his own. After a performance like his on Monday night, expect Vince McMahon to rediscover his love for the big man and attempt to push Cass as far and as hard as he can to the top of the roster.

Loser: Neville

Yes, The Man That Gravity Forgot turned in a great performance against Chris Jericho, but it was in a losing effort, and he neither gained nor lost anything from it. Instead, he remains on the same booking treadmill he has ridden for the last year—a wildly talented individual stuck doing nothing of any significance.

He returned to action with a whimper, battling The Dudley Boyz in meaningless tag matches and Jericho in a meaningless singles bout without getting anything out of either situation. He appears aimless and directionless—a Superstar with all of the ability but whose career has been hampered by WWE Creative's inability to come up with anything even remotely exciting, different or motivating for him to do.

The injury he suffered to his ankle prior to WrestleMania should have been a blessing in disguise. Realistically, it should have allowed him to come back with a tidal wave of momentum, ready to conquer the Raw brand.

Like Cesaro and Sheamus, though, he is in the same position he previously found himself in, and that is troublesome both for him and anyone else in a similar situation.

Winner: Stephanie McMahon

After three years as the same, tired heel authority figure, fans witnessed some character evolution from The Billion Dollar Princess on Monday night, as she appeared to show signs of a potential babyface turn.

First, she went face-to-face with Paul Heyman, who attempted to manipulate and con her into getting what he wanted. Then, with tears in her eyes and confusion painted on her face, she watched as Triple H returned, betrayed Rollins and assisted Owens in winning the WWE Universal Championship. Those two events set the stage for a more sympathetic Stephanie, a character fans have not seen since her heyday as the general manager of SmackDown.

Ironically enough, it was at that time that a family feud with father Vince accomplished the same.

Long one of the best characters in the entire WWE Universe, the possibility that she finds herself on the heroic side of things rather than the villainous makes for fresher and more interesting television and a renewed investment fans can make in her on-screen persona.
