Sydney Darts Masters 2016: Final Results, Scores and Updated Prize Money
Phil Taylor defeated Michael van Gerwen 11-9 to clinch the 2016 Sydney Darts Masters crown on Saturday, successfully defending his title and taking the tournament's top prize for the fourth year in succession.
"The Power" throttled Dave Chisnall 11-4 in the last four to book his place in the decider, while Van Gerwen beat Peter Wright 11-6 before being outshone by Taylor at the last hurdle.
According to the official Professional Darts Corporation website, Saturday's win continued Taylor's substantial run of good form in Australia, which now includes an unbeaten run of 24 matches.
The PDC provided quotes from the newly christened four-time champion following his latest Sydney triumph at The Star, and it appeared the novelty still hasn't worn off for Taylor:
"This is brilliant and I'm so happy. I thought it was a cracking final - I thought I had him and then he came back.
I always get in front of him and he seems to come back at me, but I thought 'you're not going to get me this time'. That's the only way to beat Michael, by fighting and being aggressive.
I'm going to pat myself on the back because it was a fantastic game.Sydney's been great this week - it's been fantastic at The Star and it's been perfect for me. I got my preparation right and I've got my darts right. I'd love to play here every week!
"
Van Gerwen came within four legs of victory and kept his foe within reach before falling at the latter end of his encounter with Taylor, where it was the more seasoned veteran who proved his mettle on this stage again.
Here's a breakdown of Saturday's results from the 2016 Sydney Darts Masters, complete with a recap of the day's action:

Recap
The early signs in Saturday's final showdown suggested Van Gerwen was more than capable of unsettling his opponent, opening with a maximum as part of an 11-dart finish to take an initial 1-0 lead.
However, Taylor battled his way back into leads of 4-2 and 5-3 before "Mighty Mike" strung together three timely legs in succession to take a valuable, albeit slim lead.

And it proved to be too slim as The Power finished 69 on double six to level at seven legs apiece shortly before putting together his own spree of three legs in succession, with Van Gerwen struggling to keep up.
A last-gasp effort from the Dutchman saw Van Gerwen pull the scoreline back to 10-9, with a sample of 180s raining down, but Taylor finished on double 16 to seal his win and claim a fourth Sydney title:
The final encounter was a difficult one for Taylor after a fairly one-sided semi-final meeting with English compatriot Chisnall yielded little by way of close competition.
Taylor even held a commanding 7-1 lead at one point before allowing his opponent to get close to establishing a foothold, and Chisnall couldn't be anything but humble in defeat:
It was a significantly closer call for Van Gerwen, who edged Scotland's Wright 11-6 to occupy a place in the last two, although he also held an audacious 8-1 lead before "Snakebite" launched a comeback attempt.
Van Gerwen boasted a checkout percentage of 85 per cent, according to the official PDC website, although Taylor proved to be a cut above even him in Sydney's final on Saturday.
