Mike ChiariAug 21, 2016

After two weeks of compelling and memorable performances from the world's best athletes, the 2016 Summer Olympics will officially culminate Sunday night, with the closing ceremony serving as the ideal send-off.

The opening ceremony in Rio de Janeiro received praise for its festive feeling and integration of Brazilian culture, and that figures to carry over to the closing ceremony.

The 2012 London Games' closing ceremony featured several famous British musical acts, and the 2016 version will embrace Brazil's rich history of music, dancing and performance as well.

Musical Performers

Kygo

In conjunction with the expected launch of the Olympic Channel following the 2016 Rio Games, it was recently announced that Kygo will take center stage at Maracana Stadium.

Kygo is a 24-year-old Norwegian DJ, but the tropical sound of his music should mesh well with the overall feel of the closing ceremony in Brazil.

According to Billboard.com, Kygo is expected to perform his hit single "Carry Me," and he discussed the importance of being part of the Olympics in a press release.

"The opportunity to be a part of the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio is a huge milestone in my career, and it will be the biggest performance of my life," Kygo said. "I've been a sports fan forever, and to be able to combine this with my music and help launch something like the Olympic Channel is a dream come true."

In that same release, Olympic Channel general manager Mark Parkman discussed Kygo and why he believes he is a strong choice for the closing ceremony:

"

As one of the hottest music acts in the world, Kygo's music speaks to new generations of Olympic fans. His Closing Ceremony performance is sure to electrify viewers around the world on Sunday night as we prepare to launch the Olympic Channel. Kygo and his music will be an important element of the Olympic Channel where fans will be able to continue their excitement of Rio and the Olympic Games all year long.

"

The closing ceremony promises to be upbeat and energetic, in keeping with the general feel of Brazil and its culture, and Kygo should do an excellent job fitting in with that theme.

While the rest of the musical lineup for the closing ceremony has been kept under wraps to his point, the big-party atmosphere at Maracana Stadium promises to make it a must-see event regardless of who takes center stage.
