Recap

There were a handful of surprises in the qualifying rounds of the 85-kilogram tournament, with Rustam Assakalov of Uzbekistan, one of the favourites to medal, losing 2-1 against Viktor Lorincz of Hungary. Saman Tahmasebi of Azerbaijan also lost early to Chakvetadze, and Rami Hietaniemi's bid came to a premature end with a loss against Amer Hrustanovic of Austria in the round of 16.

Tahmasebi qualified for the repechage portion of the event, but he lost to Iran's Habibollah Jomeh Akhlaghi to end his run in the tournament.
Javid Hamzatau of Belarus took the first bronze of the night with a 4-1 win over Nikolay Nikolaev Bayryakov of Bulgaria, and Denis Kudla just about edged out Akhlaghi for the repechage contest, winning with technical points to qualify for the second bronze-medal contest. Lorincz was the next man to fall to Kudla, losing 3-3 on technical points.
Trackwrestling shared this spectacular shot of their battle:
Beleniuk took on Chakvetadze in the final, and while the former took an early two-point lead, Chakvetadze fired back by scoring nine unanswered points.
Per Richard Immel of USA Wrestling, the Russian earned his gold medal the hard way:
In the 130-kilogram division, Kayaalp took on Lopez Nunez in the final, and as World Wrestling shared, the two weren't evenly matched entering the bout:
The defending champion survived close calls against Sergey Semenov and Johan Magnus Euren, while Kayaalp dominated Eduard Popp, winning 8-0, and Sabah Shariati to book his spot in the final.
Popp and Semenov both qualified for bronze-medal matches, with the former losing to Shariati 3-0 and the latter beating Estonia's Heiki Nabi 6-0.
Lopez Nunez ran out to a quick 5-0 lead and nearly scored again with a superb throw before shutting down Kayaalp's attack and bagging his third straight Olympic title, his first in the 130-kilogram category.
