B/R's Street Heat: Previewing 5 Sneakers You Need to End Summer 2016

Giancarlo Ferrari-KingAug 15, 2016

Welcome to the inaugural edition of Bleacher Report's Street Heat, where we'll be focusing on a handful of sneakers you need to end summer 2016.

This is the place to get an in-depth look at some of the hottest kicks set to drop in the coming weeks. Our focus this time around is all about Adidas and Jordan Brand. Between the two companies, we have been given the gift of stellar Olympic-themed sneakers.

Checking out those offerings, here is your chance to take a look at this special edition of Street Heat.

Air Jordan XI Low Closing Ceremony

1 of 5

Bidding farewell to the Olympic Games isn't easy. The allure, the luster and the proud moments also signify the end of summer.

Thankfully, Jordan Brand has helped ease those woes, with an Air Jordan XI Low worth talking about. The Closing Ceremony XI is an unforgettable shoe.

Disregard the fact this colorway comes secured to an XI frame—which is always an added bonus. The XI Closing Ceremony is a perfect summer shoe. Light colors—gold and white—mesh beautifully with jeans or shorts.

It's a shoe that can be worn in the gym or strictly in a casual capacity. Either way, the high-grade, durable Jordan Brand materials will hold up in any situation.

Let's all wave goodbye to the Rio Olympics by sporting a pair of Closing Ceremony XIs. The shoe is set to release on Aug. 27.

Adidas Ultra Boost Olympic Medals Pack

2 of 5

In what could be the best Adidas release of the entire 2016 calendar year, the Ultra Boost Olympic Medals pack has been forged to honor all of the Olympic medal recipients.

The core of the shoe isn't anything new from an engineering standpoint. Adidas went back to the well—a plush one at that—focusing on the beauty that is Ultra Boost technology.

A soft core, with robust levels of support turns the Olympic Medals pack into a trifecta of goodness. Mix in a sock-lining, reinforced by the traditional Ultra Boost cage, and this shoe provides the prototypical design runners and casual wearers have gotten accustomed to.

One difference you'll notice with this pack is in the gradient department. Each sneaker, ranging from the gold to the bronze heel, is laced with a unique gradient on the toe box. It provides a stylistic touch fit for a King.

Hitting retailers Aug. 17, this Olympic Medals Ultra Boost pack will not be an easy cop. Based on all of the Adidas sellouts to date, it's hard to imagine these sticking around retailers for a long time.

Air Jordan V White/Metallic Gold

3 of 5

Jordan Brand's retro wave continues this summer with a nod to the 2016 Summer Olympics, and wow does it stand out. The Air Jordan V White/Metallic Gold could be the must-cop retro of the year.

As you can probably tell by the picture, it's all about the gold tongue. The sneaker explodes off the canvas. Finished with a white base and icy-blue sole, it's a shoe that doesn't lose an ounce of morale, even in a post-Rio world.

Jordan fans can duck as many retro releases as they want—Lord knows there are plenty to go around. But missing out on the Air Jordan V White/Metallic Gold is not in the cards.

Dropping Aug. 20, buyers should be ready for an instant sellout.

Adidas NMD_R1 Reflective

4 of 5

A reflective, Primeknit Adidas NMD model? When will the madness stop? News recently surfaced, per Zack Schlemmer of SneakerNews, that Adidas is building out two special, reflective NMD_R1s.

Considering the hype that has followed each and every NMD release, the idea of a reflective model is enough to put fans of the sneaker into a state of chaos.

Scheduled for an Aug. 18 unveiling, NMD fans should pay close attention. These shoes aren't only stunningly comfortable, they also sell out in the blink of an eye.

With this release, Adidas will have pulled off a summer worth remembering. Between the Ultra Boost Olympic Medals pack and this model, even the non-Kanye West stuff is leaping off the charts.

Air Jordan XIV Black/Vivid Green

5 of 5

One of the more underrated Air Jordans has always been the XIV. The sneaker serves as a historical reminder of Michael Jordan pulling back and launching the game-winning shot against the Utah Jazz in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Like Jordan himself, the XIV comes across as a hyper-competitive shoe. Its lean build, leather layering and quick design remain unmatched among the post-Air Jordan XIII models.

Jordan Brand decided to dig into its vault and release the Black/Vivid Green colorway. This marks the first time we've seen the shoe in nearly 20 years.

Unlike the rest of the sneaker heat to watch out for on this list, the Black/Vivid Green has already dropped. The good news is it's also readily available.

Don't sleep because it didn't sell out. The Air Jordan XIV Black/Vivid Green is a fantastic looking shoe.
