Shi was the favorite in the event after a fantastic showing in the semifinals, and she didn't disappoint, earning her second gold medal of the Rio Games. She also won the women's synchronized three-meter springboard with Wu Minxia last Sunday.

Here are the scores for each of Shi's dives:

1Inward 2.5 Somersaults81.00
2Back 2.5 Somersaults81.00
3Reverse 2.5 Somersaults84.00
4Forward 3.5 Somersaults79.05
5Forward 2.5 Somersaults 1 Twist81.00

For China, the victory continued the country's dominance at this particular event, which they've won at every Olympics dating back to 1988, per Nate Stuhlbarg of NBCOlympics.com.

Abby Johnston of the United States had a disappointing afternoon, meanwhile. The American botched her third dive, scoring a 41.85 on a forward 3.5 somersault that took her out of the running for a medal.

Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer captured the landing that cost her on Twitter:

The 26-year-old Johnston plans to retire after the Rio Games, according to Stuhlbarg. Her teammate, Kassidy Cook, was eliminated in the semifinals on Saturday, making it a tough event for the American hopefuls.

For Shi, however, it was a continuation of her dominance on the three-meter springboard.
