Olympic Trampolining Gymnastics 2016: Women's Medal Winners, Scores and Results
Canada’s Rosannagh MacLennan defended her Olympic title in the women’s trampolining gymnastics final on Friday, taking gold with a score of 56.465.
She was the only competitor to get the better of Bryony Page’s early standard of 56.040 at the Rio Olympic Arena. The competitor from Great Britain did enough for a silver medal, while China’s Li Dan (55.885), the current world champion, moved into bronze late on.
It’s a win that cements MacLennan's status as the dominant force in women’s trampoline gymnastics. Here’s a look back at how she became a back-to-back champion, the results from the final and the live medal table from Rio de Janeiro.

MacLennan Triumphs Again
Second on the start list, Great Britain’s Page had an excellent chance to set a high early standard in the final. She qualified in modest style after two mediocre efforts, although as her routine started, it was clear the 25-year-old was in fine form.
And she was exceptional throughout, scoring superbly on execution and moving to the top of the pile with a score of 56.040.
James Ducker from the Daily Telegraph was watching on as Page posted her impressive score, conceding he wouldn’t want to be in the competitors’ shoes:
As is so often the case in Olympic finals, when someone lays down an early marker, it can be tough to replicate. Indeed, some high-class competitors were short of their best with Page’s score looming at the top of the leaderboard.

Even a world championship veteran such as Hanna Harchonak found it tough, as the Belarusian botched her chance and recorded a meagre total of 5.700.
China’s He Wenna did come close to Page’s score, although it was only enough for second on the board. It left her with a nervous wait, with the reigning Olympic and world champions waiting to knock her off the rostrum.
With so much at stake, perhaps it was little surprise that the first competitor to usurp the Briton was MacLennan, showing excellent hang time, wonderful poise and all her experience in a tough routine that manifested as a 56.465.
As CBC’s David Common noted, her performance was an extremely popular one among the assembled crowd, as the Canadian guaranteed herself a medal with just two competitors to go:
Next up was Li, who was on the hunt for a major competition double. And while she produced a super performance, neither her time of flight nor her execution measured up to MacLennan’s. It meant the world champion could only move into the bronze spot ahead of her compatriot.

Belarus’ Tatsiana Piatrenia was the final gymnast to take to the trampoline, although she was unable to produce the levels that saw her through to the final as the highest qualifier, only doing enough for fifth.
It meant MacLennan had successfully defended her crown and, as Sportsnet Stats relayed, achieved something special in the process
Meanwhile, BBC Sport’s Alison Mitchell paid tribute to the effort of Page, who was delighted to win silver:
Li will be disappointed that she was unable to add the Olympic crown to her collection, although she was topped by a competitor who always seems to deliver on the big stage.
Going in front of the watching world and turning in an almost flawless display requires unbending mental strength. It’s why so many in Canada look up to MacLennan, why she carried her nation’s flag into the opening ceremony and why she’s now a two-time Olympic champion.
