
Medal Count 2016 Olympics: Twitter Reacts to Thursday's Standings and Results
Simone Biles is the best female gymnast in the world.
That was already the general consensus before the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but there's absolutely no doubt after her golden performance in the women's individual all-around competition.
The U.S. Olympic Team announced the victory on Twitter:
Biles was so dominant that the Brazilian arena started to sound like an American home crowd. Chants of "USA" broke out, per ESPN's T.J. Quinn:

The 19-year-old Biles understandably received most of the attention in the building and on Twitter, but that didn't deter American Aly Raisman from getting emotional over her silver medal. USA Gymnastics described her reaction to the medal ceremony via Twitter:

In another powerful moment during the competition, the local fans showed support to one of their own, Rebeca Andrade, after an impressive floor routine. Juliet Macur of the New York Times reacted to the roar of the crowd:

Over on the field, Fiji's men's rugby team from claimed gold after a 43-7 blowout of Great Britain. The Rio 2016 Twitter account shared immediate reaction:

In the pool, Ryan Murphy of the U.S. secured gold in the men's 200-meter backstroke. NBC Olympics dubbed him the "New King of the Backstroke:"
Murphy became the fifth American man to sweep the backstroke at an Olympic Games, per Sports Illustrated's Olympic-focused Twitter account:
In the next final, Michael Phelps picked up the 22nd Olympic gold medal of his career. And the 200-meter individual medley wasn't even close, as evidenced by this picture from NBC Olympics:

As for Phelps' longtime rival in this event, Ryan Lochte, a disappointing fifth-place finish was not what he hoped for, per NBC Sports PR:

In the last final of the night, The U.S.'s Simone Manuel and Canada's Penny Oleksiak tied for gold in the women's 100-meter freestyle. Sports Illustrated shared the news:
Oleksiak was seventh after the first 50 meters. She mounted a remarkable comeback in the second half of the race, impressing the Toronto Star's Bruce Arthur:
