Per Riding, the fires have reached the capital city of Funchal, Ronaldo's hometown, which has prompted the closing of major roads. The fires have also destroyed over 40 homes, with villages in the north of the island requiring evacuations.
Portugal have appealed to the European Union for help, with Spain and Italy sending aircraft to help fight the fires.
