Men's Individual All-Around Winner to be Crowned in Gymnastics
Japan's Kohei Uchimura and his teammates already dethroned two-time defending Olympic champions China in the team competition. NBC shared video of his impressive floor routine in that event.
Now, Uchimara is favored to secure his second gold of these games in the men's individual all-around competition. Long shots to prevent the Japanese gymnast from winning include China's Deng Shudi and Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev.
A Chance for More American Gold in the Pool
Team USA will feature two swimmers in the final for the men's 200-meter breaststroke. Missouri's Josh Prenot is favored to bring home the gold, while Kevin Cordes has an outside shot at the medal stand.
This is something Prenot has been working toward since he took up competitive swimming at age six. His father, Bill Prenot, talked about the journey with NBC's Brooke Martell:
"To know that this is a dream that was born 16-years ago and the work over a 16-year period where, for the last four Olympics, every time they'd come on when the overture starts of the Olympic coverage we would always just crank it way up.
Now the next dream kicks in, now the next dream is, 'alright, there's a podium that takes three people: bronze, silver and gold for the Olympics.' That's the next dream and there's even more after that.
"
That next dream is already within reach.
Other Americans who will be in the pool for finals on Wednesday include Cammile Adams in the women's 200-meter butterfly and Nathan Adrian in the men's 100-meter freestyle.
