Olympic Swimming 2016: Live Results and Highlights from Tuesday's Day 4
Make it 21. Michael Phelps padded his legacy with two more gold medals on Day 4 of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
In the 200-meter butterfly, he touched just ahead of Masato Sakai (Japan) and Tamas Kenderesi (Hungary). South Africa's Chad le Clos—who spent Monday night trying to rattle Phelps—failed to reach the podium after winning the event in 2012.
To close the night, Phelps anchored the 800-meter freestyle team that included Conor Dwyer, Townley Haas and Ryan Lochte. Thanks to spectacular swims from the first two, Lochte and Phelps enjoyed and maintained a sizable lead. Great Britain and Japan took home silver and bronze, respectively.
Prior to Phelps' first race, Katie Ledecky edged Sarah Sjostrom (Sweden) in the 200-meter freestyle final.
During the 200-meter individual medley, Maya DiRado hit the wall moments before teammate Melanie Margalis to swipe a bronze medal. Katinka Hosszu (Hungary) won the gold, and Siobhan-Marie O'Connor (Great Britain) earned the silver.
