Snoop Dogg's Son Cordell Broadus Leaves UCLA's Football Program
Cordell Broadus' career with the UCLA Bruins is over before it even began. Bruins head coach Jim Mora confirmed Monday that Broadus has left the program, per Bruin Report Online.
Broadus, son of rapper Snoop Dogg, had taken a year away from the football team, but Bruin Report Online's Tracy Pierson reported in March that he intended to return as a redshirt freshman.
Broadus was considered a 4-star wide receiver and ranked 26th at his position in the 2015 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings. In a May interview with Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel, Mora described Broadus' return as a "feather in the cap" for the passing game.
Bruins quarterback Josh Rosen praised his work on the practice field after he returned to the team.
"He's awesome, he's been killing it," Rosen said, per the Los Angeles Daily News' Thuc Nhi Nguyen. "He's picking up the offense quickly. He's a big receiver, physical. He reminds me a lot of [Jordan Payton], but he's going to evolve, just like all of us."
The Pac-12 Network shared a clip of Broadus catching a touchdown pass in practice:
However, TMZ Sports spoke to sources around the team who said "[Broadus'] head wasn't completely in it."
Having Broadus on the roster would've been a nice luxury for UCLA, which lost last year's top two leading receivers, Payton and Thomas Duarte.
Instead, the Bruins will be relying heavily on Darren Andrews, Eldridge Massington and Kenneth Walker, who combined to catch 63 passes for 794 yards and two touchdowns. UCLA will also have high expectations for true freshman Theo Howard, who was the No. 13 wideout in the 2016 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.
