Lifeguards Present at 2016 Olympic Swimming Pool Because of Brazilian Law

Mark BollonsAug 8, 2016

It must be the easiest job at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Due to Brazilian law, four lifeguards must be present at poolside, meaning the finest swimmers on the planet are protected just in case something goes wrong.

"

Brazilian law means that any public pool over a certain size must have lifeguards on duty at all times while there are people swimming in it.

"

The Independent also noted that lifeguards are being paid $340 [£260] for their "work" during the Olympics. Not bad for the best seat in the house to watch Michael Phelps, Adam Peaty and the world's other top swimmers.
