The United States leads all countries by a healthy three medals entering Day 3, due in part to a record-breaking performance by Katie Ledecky, who broke her own world record on Sunday with a new personal best of 3:56.46.

Ledecky, 19, will be competing on Day 3 in the women's 200m freestyle and will have to refocus on her quest for more gold, but it's hard to imagine that she will be over her performance today anytime soon.

Michael Phelps' 19th Olympic gold medal is an astonishing feat, but this medal was all about team effort. The United States' 4x100m freestyle relay team were able to outlast the France and Australia teams en route to America's second gold medal in the pool on the day.

While Phelps' achievement should not be undermined by any means, the real story of the day happened on the mat in women's judo where Majlinda Kelmendi won Kosovo's first ever Olympic medal, which just so happened to be a gold.

It was a memorable moment for Kelmendi and her country of Kosovo, and there will be many more incredible moments in the coming days as there will be eight events handing out medals on Day 3 and another nine on Day 4.

For a complete schedule of events and to view a live stream of each one, here is NBC's rundown for Sunday.
