Notable Games
Pennsylvania vs. Maryland
Brady Bendik hit two home runs and drove in four runs, helping lead Pennsylvania to a 10-7 win over Maryland. Kaden Falls also hit a home run for Pennsylvania in a game that turned into a slugfest.
After going scoreless for the first two innings, Pennsylvania put up a five-spot in the top of the third. First, Cy Probst unloaded the bases with a three-run triple, and then Bendik knocked his first of two homers to score Probst in the next at-bat.
While Maryland came back with three of its own in the bottom half, Pennsylvania added one in the fourth and fifth before putting up another three-spot in the sixth to put it away. Maryland wound up scoring three in the bottom of the sixth, so those latter runs served as insurance.
Probst started on the mound for Pennsylvania, giving up one run over 2.1 innings.
Georgia vs. North Carolina
Isaiah Lopez hit a home run and drove in two runs and Elijah Jones pitched a complete game as Georgia staved off elimination to defeat North Carolina 4-2.
Lopez's homer was a solo shot and helped give Georgia a 1-0 lead in the third. It held onto that lead thanks to some stellar work by Jones and opened the game up as part of a three-run fifth.
Jones needed only 78 pitches to mow through all six innings and gave up just two hits. Colin Scoggins' two-run triple in the ninth briefly called the result into question, but Jones calmly got himself out of the jam. Georgia finished with just five hits, yet took advantage when it counted.
Lopez drove in his second run of the game in the fifth, scored on a wild pitch and watched North Carolina give up another run via an error.
Georgia next plays at 11 a.m. Monday for a chance at the semifinal.
Maine vs. Vermont
Nic Frank hit a home run and drove in two teammates as one of six Maine players who had an RBI in the team's 8-4 win over Vermont.
Frank went 2-for-3 overall as Maine scored two runs apiece in each of the first two innings and never trailed. Sam Clark gave up two runs and struck out eight over three innings of work on the mound to get the win.
Vermont starter Zinabu McNeice struggled from the outset, giving up six runs (four earned) on six hits and walking two in 3.2 innings. Reliever Caden Wood lasted only 0.1 innings before giving up the final two runs of the game for Maine.
Leadoff hitter Peter O'Brien went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, hitting a triple and driving in a run of his own. Frank and Sam Clark also finished with two runs scored.
Vermont was never closer than two runs and trailed by as many as six.
