Summer Olympics 2016 Schedule: Saturday TV, Live-Stream Coverage from Rio
It was not the most ornate opening ceremony that has ever been seen at the Olympics, but the 2016 Rio de Janeiro organizers got the job done in fine fashion, and the Olympic Games are officially underway.
Saturday marks the first full day of competition, and the high-profile and highly talented United States men's basketball team will take to the court for the first time against China. The U.S. team, led by Kyrie Irving, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson, dominated against China twice in pre-Olympic meetings last month.
While players like LeBron James, Stephen Curry and James Harden decided not to be a part of the team, Draymond Green said the team is fully capable of bringing home the gold medal once again.
"We are all determined to play nothing but our best basketball, and it's clear how well we all get along together," Green told Bleacher Report while the team was in Chicago last week. "We want to enjoy the experience, but the main goal is to bring home the gold medal. That's what all of us want."
The game will get underway at 6 p.m. ET and will be televised by NBCSN.

The U.S. women's soccer team will be back in action Saturday. The American women already have a 1-0 record after beating New Zealand 2-0 on Wednesday. Team USA will meet France, another team that was victorious in its first match, as the French women defeated Colombia 4-0. The French team is well-respected, and the two sides will play at 4 p.m. ET.
The American women have won three straight gold medals in the event, and the team looks strong and powerful once again.
Gold medals will be handed out in swimming Saturday, as the medal events include the men's 400-meter individual medley, the men's 400 freestyle, the women's 400 individual medley and the women's 4x100-meter freestyle relay.

Conor Dwyer and Connor Jaeger are Team USA's representatives in the 400 freestyle, but this event may belong to China's Sun Yang and Australian Mack Horton, the two favorites. Sun is the odds-on favorite to win at 10-11, according to Odds Shark, while Horton comes into the event at 17-10.
The United States men's gymnastics team will compete Saturday in the qualifying round. There are eight team spots in the finals, and the men's team of Chris Brooks, Jacob Dalton, Danell Leyva, Sam Mikulak and Alex Naddour should make it through to that round.
While the men's team is strong, it does not have the same high profile of the women's team, and the American men are not likely to bring home a medal.
Saturday is just the start of the Olympics, and the excitement should build as the days go by.
