WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE SummerSlam 2016 for Week of August 5
WWE SummerSlam is coming up on August 21, and fans are expecting big things.
Brock Lesnar versus Randy Orton is enough to bring any longtime fan to the table, as the fellow OVW graduates are finally coming full circle. Both men are world traveled Superstars and top guys in their own right; this is their time to take the spotlight against each other.
This is the best match WWE could book for both guys, and it should be a memorable one indeed.
Dean Ambrose versus Dolph Ziggler is one that many did not see coming, but it has the potential to steal the show. This is Ziggler's chance at redemption to prove that he is a main event star in the company. For Ambrose, this is about establishing his dominance as WWE world heavyweight champion.
Both men have a statement to make and they surely will on that night.
John Cena will be facing off against AJ Styles once again, as the two continue their feud. This is one that would be a main event anywhere in the world, as the industry's two biggest lock up in a match of both style and substance.
Much of the SummerSlam spotlight will be shining on Finn Balor versus Seth Rollins. This is Balor's pay-per-view debut as part of WWE's main roster, so he definitely has a great opportunity to prove himself. Rollins will do what he does best, of course, and deliver the five-star performance that fans have become accustomed to seeing.
The fact that the newly created Universal Championship is up for grabs only adds more importance to this match.
But as WWE inches closer to SummerSlam, the rumor mill begins spinning once again. Each of the latest rumors could have serious impact on August 21, and that means even more reason to believe SummerSlam will be a can't miss event for WWE.
Paige's Injury and Other Issues
1 of 3Paige has been a favorite of fans for quite some time. Long before the Divas revolution in WWE, Paige was doing some nice work in the division. As the heir apparent to AJ Lee, Paige was the Anti-Diva that fans saw as different and special.
But she has been missing in action for a while, and according to The Wrestling Observer (via Nick Paglino of WrestleZone), she may not just be dealing with injury.
Supposedly, she and boyfriend Alberto Del Rio were intentionally split onto separate programs during the WWE Draft. While this could have been merely just a storyline move, it's entirely possible that the company felt the time was right to make this happen.
Is it possible that the two were losing focus and WWE felt the need to correct it?
If the company was indeed acting in its own best interests here, then fans could surely understand it. After all, Del Rio and Paige are trusted main event stars; the work in the ring should always be the most important aspect of the game.
But when it comes to personal relationships, many fans are probably of the opinion that WWE should stay out of it.
Why should the company interfere in relationships between the Superstars, unless it's affecting both of their careers? Paige and Del Rio are both adults and should be trusted to use good judgment. So is that the problem here? Have the two lost that much focus?
The biggest issue for fans of Paige is that any problems outside of her injury could greatly affect when she returns to TV.
The brand split is in full swing, and WWE needs all of its stars healthy and delivering every week. Paige has a lot to offer, and as long as she remains off TV, she is losing ground. With any luck, she will recover soon, and if there are any underlying issues, then they will be resolved in short order.
SmackDown's Two New Championships
2 of 3WWE's new Talking Smack segment delivered a tidbit of news that fans surely saw coming: The blue brand will create two new championships.
This had to happen, despite any criticism to the contrary. After all, what is the point of even running both a tag team and a women's division on TV if there is no gold at the top for either one? Teams like American Alpha and The Usos deserve something to fight for, and the same can be said of Natalya and Becky Lynch.
Daniel Bryan's announcement substantiates the report from F4WOnline (via Nick Paglino of WrestleZone), and now fans can only speculate as to what the titles will be called.
Monday Night Raw is introducing the brand specific Universal Championship to the company, a title that will become WWE's second world belt. The name is in tribute to the WWE Universe, and though many fans are not thrilled about the name, they can't deny it's an exciting prospect.
The title may have zero value right now, but that will change when it's handed to the first ever champ.
That man will build the title from the ground up, and the same is true for the new championships coming to SmackDown Live.
A second set of titles means more opportunity for the talents fighting for relevancy on Tuesday nights. WWE can use whatever terminology it wants, but this is a move that had to happen in order for SmackDown to keep up with Raw.
Bryan's words hinted at something perhaps a bit different than just straightforward title tournaments, so it will be interesting to see what the company is planning for SmackDown Live. No matter what happens, there's no denying that since traveling champions were not utilized, then new championships are indeed the next best option.
Bray Wyatt Possibly Hurt?
3 of 3Bray Wyatt could be a top heel in WWE. He's talented enough, he's compelling on the mic, and he has the ability to generate immense heat from the live crowds. All he needs is the right protagonist to play off of, perhaps a Randy Orton, and he would be in a prime place for big things to happen.
Bray could also become a top babyface in WWE, because despite how much he's supposed to be hated, he is getting over like never before. He was cheered against Dolph Ziggler, and that crowd response has followed him for months.
But the problem is, he's been out with injury, and now, it's possible he could miss some more time.
According to Wrestler Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer (via Nick Paglino of WrestleZone), Bray has a sprained ankle thanks to his match on the August 2 edition of SmackDown Live. The seriousness of this injury is not known at this time, but if the company pulls him from upcoming live events, then it could be worse than we know.
This is not the news Bray or his fans wanted to hear.
Wyatt is indeed so talented, and he has devoted himself so fully to his character, that it's obvious he wants more in WWE. It's been obvious from the beginning, but he's come so far in the past few years, that it does appear he's coming to an impasse.
WWE should either push open the next door for him, or just leave him out of the main event altogether.
The latter should not happen; he's done too much and has proven he has what it takes to be successful. But the problem is he just can't seem to keep his head above water from an injury standpoint. This is not to suggest that he's injury prone, but if the company ever begins to see it that way, then he's in trouble.
The aforementioned Dolph Ziggler can surely testify to that fact.
With any luck, this is not serious, and Bray will soon be back on his feet doing what he does best. There's too much potential here for him to get over as a top star for it to not be fully realized. Bray is on the eve of doing something big in WWE, and he should be allowed to reach that next level.
