Women's Basketball: USA vs. Senegal

The United States women's basketball team has been a dominant force at the past several Olympic Games, and its stacked roster will have its first test in Rio Sunday against what figures to be an overmatched Senegal squad.

Team USA has won gold at each of the past five Olympics and in seven of the past eight Summer Games.

It is the odds-on favorite to do so once again in 2016 thanks to a roster that boasts a number of WNBA superstars, including Elena Delle Donne, Brittney Griner, Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi.

This marks just the second time Senegal's women's basketball team has qualified for the Olympics—and the first time since finishing 12th in 2000.

While the game doesn't figure to be overly competitive, it should be an entertaining affair since the supremely talented Americans will have a chance to show off their skills and light up the scoreboard.

Women's Swimming: 400-Meter Freestyle

Katie Ledecky has a chance to leave Rio as one of Team USA's most decorated athletes at just 19 years of age, and her solo Games starts Sunday with the 400-meter freestyle.

The well-rounded Ledecky holds the 400-meter freestyle world record in addition to holding the records at both 800 meters and 1,500 meters.

She won Olympic gold in the 800-meter free as a 15-year-old at the 2012 London Games, and she enters Rio having won five gold medals at the 2015 World Championships. She helped Team USA to silver in the 4x100-meter relay on Saturday.

Ledecky is a massive favorite to top the podium in the 400-meter freestyle, and she has an opportunity to secure a gold-medal haul comparable to the eight Michael Phelps took home from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Four years ago Ledecky, was a surprising phenom, and now she is in line to establish herself as an international megastar.

Women's Gymnastics Team and All-Around Qualifying

The United States' "Fierce Five" women's gymnastics team dominated four years ago in London by taking team gold, and they will look to repeat that feat in Rio.

Their quest begins with qualifying for the team and individual all-around finals on Sunday. The U.S. is almost guaranteed to reach the team final, but things get a bit more interesting when it comes to the individual event.

Reigning three-time world champion Simone Biles and defending Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas are favored to represent the U.S. in that event, but veteran Aly Raisman has a chance to force her way in with a fine performance.

Biles, Douglas and Raisman are three of the biggest stars the United States has to offer in Rio across every sport, and Sunday will provide them with a chance to set the tone for what is expected to be a successful defense of their team crown.
