PGA Championship 2016: Predictions, Live Stream and TV Coverage Hub for Friday

Joe PantornoJul 29, 2016

After the first round of the PGA Championship on Thursday from Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey, Jimmy Walker has a one-stroke lead at five under.

Friday's second round will provide cuts that decrease the field almost in half, as there are some big names on the verge of seeing their respective tournaments end early.

Predictions

Don't Expect Another Big Round from Walker

Walker spun together his finest round at a major with a five-under 65 on Thursday, but he didn't make it easy.

According to the Golf Channel, Walker was scrambling on 85.7 percent of his holes, which meant he was unable to hit a green in regulation but managed to salvage a par or better.

The PGA Tour showed one of those scrambles on No. 7 via Twitter:

This is a dangerous game to be playing, though, especially in a world-class field that will be able to take advantage of any mistakes he makes.

If Walker is unable to find the greens more often on Friday, he could see his lead evaporate quickly on Friday.

McIlroy Will Miss The Cut

The No. 4 golfer in the world, Rory McIlroy, faces an uphill battle on Friday after he shot a four-over 74 in the first round.

He went without a birdie in his first 18 holes, as he was let down by his putter. His driving accuracy and greens-in-regulation percentage were well above the field's average on Friday, but he had to attempt 35 putts on the afternoon, an average of almost two per hole.

McIlroy disclosed the grass was presenting problems for him, per Bob Harig of ESPN.com: "With the poa annua greens, you start to look a lot into them. You read it from behind the ball and you see one line; you read it from behind the hole and it looks slightly different. You put yourself in two minds sometimes."

While he was able to set himself up nicely, momentum would disappear as soon as it was time to break out the putter. Had he been able to navigate the greens at Baltusrol, he could have been challenging for the lead. Instead, he'll be unable to pull off a turnaround that will keep him in the tournament.
