American swimmer Katie Ledecky added another medal to her rapidly growing collection by capturing a gold in the 200-meter freestyle Tuesday at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

Ledecky's time of one minute, 53.73 seconds was just good enough to edge out Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom, who clocked in at 1:54.08 to earn a silver medal.

After starting slow over the first 50 meters, Ledecky kicked things up a notch after making the first turn and was briefly on a world-record pace after 100 meters.

Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports tweeted out his impressions from Ledecky's victory:

Speaking after her win on the NBC telecast (via ESPN's Rachel Nichols), Ledecky noted she may not have been at her peak physical condition:

Ledecky has emerged as the most dominant swimmer on the planet, a baton she's taken seamlessly from fellow United States phenom Michael Phelps in recent years. Her Olympic races are starting to become must-see television, much like Phelps' when he was smashing record after record.

SB Nation noted Ledecky is taking gold medals like a certain sea monster used to terrorize audiences on the big screen:

The 200-meter freestyle is a race in which she's been searching for a comfort zone, though. While her natural talent allows her to contend in virtually every competition she enters, her times in the 200 hadn't been on the same world-class level as the 400 and 800.

"It is an event I'm enjoying more and more," Ledecky said in June, via Dave Sheinin of the Washington Post. "It is all about racing. I feel like I swim it differently every time I swim it, but it always feels pretty much the same."

Perhaps the only thing more difficult than beating Ledecky in a race is getting her to talk about herself for an extended period of time. Even as she prepared for what's becoming a breakout summer on a worldwide scale, she was more at ease discussing the swimming team as a whole, as Sarah Talaat of the Rivard Report noted:

"

I think the team's stronger than ever and I think that's because of the mix of rookies and veterans and people with a lot of Olympic experience and some swimmers who are really coming off of a lot of momentum from Olympic trials. I think we'll be able to bring a number of Olympic medals home and do better than we ever have.

"

Ledecky is a massive part of that success and the future of USA Swimming.

Seeing her take the podium has become routine after her dominance in the World Championships and Pan Pacific Championships over the past couple of years. She already dominated in the 400-meter freestyle, setting a new world record en route to winning a gold medal in Rio.

What makes the success even more impressive is the fact she's just 19. It begs the question of what she'll be capable of in the 2020 and 2024 Games, both of which should fall within her physical peak.

For now, she'll stay focused on the remaining tasks in both the individual and team events left on her schedule in the coming days. The result will likely be more medals to celebrate.
