Mo Farah Wins Gold Medal During Men's 10,000M at 2016 Olympics
Great Britain’s Mo Farah raced to a gold medal in the 10,000-metre final on Saturday at the Olympics, posting a time of 27 minutes and 05.17 seconds in the final in Rio de Janeiro.
The result of the race was confirmed by NBC Olympics:
This victory means Farah has retained the title he won so memorably in London in 2012 and is on for another outstanding Olympic double. He’ll run in the 5,000-metre event at the Games, too, with the final scheduled for next Saturday.
Farah triumphed over Kenya's Paul Kipngetich Tanui by less than one second. Ethiopia's Tamirat Tola will be on the third step of the podium, as he grabbed a bronze medal.
"It's never easy but everyone knows what I can do," Farah said, according to the Associated Press' Raf Casert. "I thought about all my hard work, and that it could all be gone in a minute."
Farah didn't have it easy Saturday night as he was accidentally tripped by training partner Galen Rupp, via NBC Olympics:
“When I fell down, I was just thinking,'‘Try to get up, try to get up. Don’t panic, don’t panic, don’t panic,'" Farah said, according to the New York Times' Michael Powell and Doug Mills. "And then I got up, and I tried to just get through it."
However, Farah showcased his speed and endurance with an incredible kick in the race's final two laps to take the lead over Tanui and earn another gold medal.
