Allyson Felix Wins Silver Medal During Women's 400M at 2016 Olympics
Allyson Felix finally earned a medal in the 400-meter sprint at the Olympics, taking home the silver medal in Rio de Janeiro on Monday.
Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas won the gold, while Shericka Jackson of Jamaica secured the bronze.
NBC Olympics provided the final results for the race:
It was a photo finish, with Miller diving to the line and crossing just before Felix, as NBC Olympics showed:
Former Olympian Lolo Jones provided her take on the tactic of diving at the finish line:
Felix's silver in the 400 meters capped off an impressive career for the 30-year-old sprinter. She had already won two gold medals in the 4x400-meter relay (2008, 2012), a gold (2012) and two silvers (2004, 2008) in the 200-meter sprint and a gold in the 4x100-meter relay (2012). She's also a two-time winner in the 400-meter sprint at the World Championships (2011, 2015).
After winning her seventh Olympic medal Monday, SportsCenter noted Felix passed Jackie Joyner-Kersee for the most by an American woman in track and field.
But the Rio Olympics will still be a disappointment for Felix, who didn't qualify for the 200-meter sprint—the event that has been her speciality over her career—after an ankle sprain disrupted her training and she finished fourth at the U.S. trials.
