Jordon Ibe to Bournemouth: Latest Transfer Details, Reaction and More

Rory MarsdenJul 14, 2016

Bournemouth confirmed the signing of Jordon Ibe from Liverpool on Thursday with the 20-year-old signing a four-year deal at the Vitality Stadium.

In a club statement, Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said:

"

We’re delighted to bring Jordon to the football club.

He played plenty of football with Liverpool last season and we’re looking forward to seeing him to continue to grow now with us, he’s a huge prospect.

We’ve now signed five players this summer, all of whom have an abundance of potential.

It shows that we’re serious about nurturing talent at this football club and we have the long term in mind when we say we want to stay in the Premier League.

Ibe joined Liverpool from Wycombe Wanderers in December 2011 and subsequently spent time on loan at Birmingham City and Derby County.

He made his senior Reds debut in May 2013 and looked a prime candidate to replace Raheem Sterling in the long term on the Liverpool flank—he can play either on the right or left.

However, Ibe struggled to break into the first team under manager Jurgen Klopp, making only 12 Premier League starts in the 2015-16 season, netting one goal and providing two assists, per WhoScored.com.

With great competition for the attacking places in the Liverpool squad, it looked unlikely he would become a regular starter, hence the Reds allowing him to leave.

He has enormous potential, though, and should thrive under Cherries boss Eddie Howe, especially as he is likely to get many more opportunities than he did at Anfield.

Ibe needs to work on his end product and decision-making, but he has the potential to become a top-class attacking threat in the Premier League, per football writer Jim Boardman:

Given that Bournemouth needed to make attacking additions and Ibe was only on the fringes at Liverpool, it looks a deal that should be beneficial for all involved.
