US Open Golf Purse 2016: Projecting Payouts for Top-10 Leaderboard Standings
With numerous players vying for position atop the 2016 U.S. Open leaderboard at Oakmont Country Club, there is no clear favorite heading into Sunday.
What will remain the same is the purse, which stands at $10 million. The winner will receive the same $1.8 million that Jordan Spieth received in 2015, per GolfandCourse.com.
Shane Lowry seized control of the lead at five under par overall before darkness suspended play in Round 3, while Andrew Landry was two strokes behind.
Here's a look at the leaderboard after Saturday's play:
Here are the projected prizes for the top 10 based on last year's payouts, per Golfweek:

Predictions for Top 10
Lowry used a phenomenal start to Round 3 to surge to the top of the field. He shot three under through 14 holes before darkness set in.
The Irishman hit 10 of 11 fairways and averaged 1.50 putts per hole, which was well below the field average of 1.69.
Long-range putts like this exemplify why Lowry was successful, via the U.S. Open's Twitter account:
Landry's play was just as impressive.
He entered Saturday tied with Dustin Johnson for the lead with only one round under his belt in his first career major. He wilted under the pressure early with three bogeys, but he bounced back to three under overall by the end of the day.
ESPN.com's Jason Sobel was impressed with Landry's play:
Landry seems poised enough to stay in contention, so look for him and Lowry to receive top-10 compensation.
Sergio Garcia, Johnson and Lee Westwood have been within the top 10 for the majority of the tournament, so they are good bets to remain in such a position.
All three have yet to win a major, but Johnson is the most dangerous. The U.S. Open gave a look at one of his drives:
For the tournament, Johnson is averaging 319.80 yards per drive, as opposed to the field average of 284.98.
Jason Day is another player to watch. The No. 1-ranked player in the world tore up the course to the tune of a four-under in Round 3. He is capable of putting together another solid performance and staying firmly within the top 10.
The top 10 will change, but those at the top are looking strong so far. Expect the players mentioned to stay in contention throughout Sunday.
