Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
John Cena and Roman Reigns have been nominated for Choice Male Athlete at this year's Teen Choice Awards, while The Bella Twins are in the running for the Choice Female Athlete award.
Cena and Reigns are the two most polarizing figures in the company. Whenever they enter an arena, you never know whether they will get a positive, negative or mixed reaction from the crowd.
Those two will be competing against each other for the award, but Nikki and Brie Bella have been nominated as a single unit—but why aren't they recognized as separate entities?
Nikki and Brie may be twins, but that is where their similarities end. Frankly, they should have received separate nominations, but they will probably be happy to share the trophy, or surfboard, if they win.
If you would like to cast your vote for any of these Superstars, you can do so on the Teen Choice Awards' official site.
Gawker vs. Hulk Hogan Update
In the never-ending story that is the Hulk Hogan vs. Gawker lawsuit, a judge has ruled the original decision stands and that Hogan should receive the $140 million settlement, according to Sydney Ember of the New York Times.
The same article also confirms Nick Denton, the CEO of Gawker Media Group, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is looking to sell the company to another online media conglomerate named Ziff Davis, which already owns IGN, AskMen and several other outlets.
This is great news for Hogan, but he is not likely to see anywhere close to the full $140 million anytime soon. These kinds of settlements can take years to go through, but at least Hogan can focus on other things while he waits for his first check to arrive.
Gawker has always been known for the controversial way it covers news, so if it does end up under new ownership, steps may be taken to ensure another situation such as the one with Hogan doesn't happen again.
New Tag Team Debuts in NXT
As seen during Wednesday's TakeOver: The End live special, American Alpha lost the NXT Tag Team Championships to The Revival and were immediately attacked by two massive Superstars following the loss.
The new duo is known as The Authors of Pain, and they will be managed by none other than WWE Hall of Famer and former Road Warriors manager Paul Ellering.
The two men who make up the team are Sunny Dhinsa and Gzim Selmani. Both are new to the wrestling world, having been trained at the WWE Performance Center since 2015.
The pair have been wrestling at NXT live events for several months under masks, but it appears they will be moving forward without them.
Having Ellering as a manager gives them instant credibility, but they still have to prove themselves in the ring if they ever hope to make it past the developmental system to the main roster.
Brock Lesnar Exempt From 4-Month USADA Drug Testing for UFC Fight
Brock Lesnar will not be subjected to the four-month minimum period for drug testing by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USASA) before his upcoming return to the Octagon at UFC 200, and during an interview with Fox Sports, his opponent, Mark Hunt, revealed he is not too happy about it.
"I don’t think anyone should be exempt from testing. If they’re trying to clean the sport up...this is a bad way to do it. I don’t care who you are. It’s ridiculous.
I don’t think it’s a great move. I think he’s juiced to the gills—and I still think I’m going to knock him out. So I don’t think that’s correct. I don’t think he should be allowed to get a four-month exemption otherwise everyone else should. Otherwise I should start juicing.
"
Accusing Lesnar of using performance-enhancing drugs is likely to make The Beast Incarnate even more dedicated to winning his big return bout, especially since being under a WWE contract means he is already subject to the WWE Wellness Policy, which tests for banned substances.
Hunt is a renowned knockout artist, but Lesnar is an athletic freak who is known for his insane strength, speed and mat-wrestling ability, so it might not be as easy to put his lights out as Hunt thinks it will be.
The exemption to the normal four-month rule does not mean Lesnar won't be tested—just it will take place within a month of the fight.
Daniel Bryan Competing in Olympic Lifting
Daniel Bryan's time inside the ring may be over, but his career as an athlete is still going strong. The former WWE world heavyweight champion recently competed in an Olympic lifting competition.
Bryan has been training for the event for months, and despite not winning, he still received a special sword as a prize at the end of the day.
Olympic lifting is not solely reserved for guys who can bench press a Buick because there are different classes one can compete in.
Bryan has not cut WWE out of his life completely. Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported on Friday he was backstage for the most recent set of NXT TV tapings to visit friends and watch the matches being filmed. He also worked out at the Performance Center, as shown in the video above.
Updated Money in the Bank Card
As seen during the most recent episodes of Raw and SmackDown, some important additions were made to this year's Money in the Bank card.
John Cena vs. AJ Styles was made official on Monday, marking the first time the two veterans will face each other in their careers.
We also saw Titus O'Neil vs. Rusev for the United States Championship made official on Thursday. Here is a complete rundown of the updated card, according to WWE.com:
- AJ Styles vs. John Cena
- Titus O'Neil vs. Rusev (U.S. title)
- The New Day vs. The Vaudevillains vs. The Club vs. Enzo and Cass (tag titles)
- Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Cesaro, Chris Jericho, Dean Ambrose and Alberto Del Rio in the Money in the Bank match
- Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)
While it has yet to be made official, Charlotte will likely defend the Women's Championship against Natalya for the third pay-per-view in a row.
Money in the Bank is usually one of the more exciting shows of the year because of the titular ladder match. Hopefully this year's event continues the trend and someone deserving walks out with the briefcase.
Which match are you looking forward to the most?
