Allsports says Mats thought his Time had Come

So for sports news junkies and fans of sports on the web, today marks the day that the big Swede, Mats Sundin announced his retirement. The announcement was made in Stockholm’s Grand Hotel this morning to a packed press conference.

Mats was the face of the Maple Leafs franchise for thirteen seasons and amassed 420 goals and 987 points while wearing the blue and white. The only Leaf with more assists than Sundin was countryman Borje Salming.

Sundin was an eight time NHL All star and the all-time leading Swedish scorer in NHL history with 564 goals, 785 assists and 1,349 points. While he never did get his name on Lord Stanley’s Mug. he did captain the Swedish National Team to a goal medal in 2006.

Mats Sundin always handled himself with grace and integrity while under the spot light in Toronto. He could give some other athletes, which I won’t mention, some insight as to what it means to be a true professional. Although his short stay in Vancouver did not turn out the way he had planned I am sure the results were as such to make his decision on retirement that much easier.

Young Mats

Mats Sundin, future NHL Hall of Fame inductee, you were one of the best and allsports enjoyed your eminence talents for many years. Look for the number 13 to be retired by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
