Stanley Cup Betting Preview: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. San Jose Sharks Game 4 Odds

The San Jose Sharks are hoping the defining moment of the Stanley Cup Final took place in overtime of Game 3 when Joonas Donskoi scored the winning goal at the 12:18 mark to give them their first-ever victory in the NHL’s championship series—a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Penguins led twice, and a third time would have seen them going for a sweep Monday. Instead, the Sharks are listed as -140 home favorites (bet $140 to win $100) for Game 4 of the series at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark.

San Jose improved to 8-1 in its last nine home games, while Pittsburgh fell to 2-3 in its past five on the road. The Penguins had been tied or held the lead for the entire series until Donskoi’s goal, which is all the Sharks needed to put themselves into position to even things up at 2-2 heading back to the Consol Energy Center for Game 5 on Thursday.

Joel Ward scored the tying goal at the 8:48 mark of the third period for San Jose to force the extra session of Game 3, with Justin Braun tallying his second of the series at 9:34 of the first after Pittsburgh’s Ben Lovejoy struck first.

Pittsburgh rookie goalie Matt Murray has also done a solid job, but he has not dealt with nearly the same volume of shots as Jones. Murray has not seen more than 26 shots fired against him in any of the first three games, stopping 68 of 74 for a save percentage of .919. He has allowed one less goal despite facing 39 less shots overall in the series.

The under has cashed in each game so far and is 4-0 in the past four for the Pens as well, according to the Odds Shark NHL Database. The under is also 6-1 in the previous seven meetings with San Jose dating back to the 2014-15 regular season.
