Shinsuke Nakamura, a Female Money in the Bank and More from the Women's Mailbag

Alfred KonuwaJun 2, 2016

The announcement of WWE's brand split has basically created an endless string of questions ranging from "How?" to "Why?" to "What if?"

One of the more exciting aspects of WWE splitting in half is the additional call-ups from NXT, which figures to export some of its bigger names to put SmackDown on par with Raw.

Mr. Tuesday Night?

There are plenty of ways Nakamura can be brought in, but the sooner the better.

At 36, Nakamura isn't your typical developmental talent (but then again, who is in NXT these days?). WWE needs to capitalize on the charismatic vet while he's still healthy, because WWE's pattern of injuries tends to disproportionately affect older stars from the very physical independent/international circuit, for obvious reasons.

With the premiere of SmackDown's live reboot looming, Nakamura could be brought in as a coveted free agent with both Raw and SmackDown General Managers vying for his services. If he chooses SmackDown, he'll help give the show a more unique flavor while making SmackDown stand out as a brand that can be more compelling than Raw.

Nakamura may be a better fit in front of the rabid, hipster NXT audience. But lucky for him, WWE already has a roster filled with former NXT standouts, so Nakamura should be able to fit in just fine.

However he's brought in, it's important that WWE adds a lot of fanfare and backstory to Nakamura's debut in the same way NXT did. The announcers need to treat his arrival like a big deal, similar to how they giddily praised AJ Styles upon his surprise Royal Rumble appearance.

A Brand New Life?

The impending brand split will be a breath of fresh air for Sami Zayn. I feel like he still hasn't quite established himself beyond being a good hand.

Zayn has very little identity outside of his feud and former friendship with Kevin Owens. After a promising debut was derailed by injury, Zayn returned during the peak of WrestleMania season. He had to compete with Triple H, the Undertaker, Shane McMahon, Brock Lesnar and several other big names for TV time.

Getting lost in the shuffle among such big stars still seems to be affecting him, but he'll be able to come into his own as a perennial title contender on a different roster.

Roman Reigns will also benefit from the brand split, assuming John Cena gets out of his way. Reigns is well on his way to being a top star for years to come, but he still needs to remain a focal point of WWE programming for several more months. Being a focal point will be made easier without The Ghost of Hustle, Loyalty and Respect following him around.

Money in the Bank—Equal Pay?

Money in the Bank is just a few weeks away, and I haven't heard a peep about a potential female Money in the Bank ladder match. It would definitely be a missed opportunity, as WWE would be further establishing gender equality with such a match.

WWE would be wise to exploit the femininity of the women's division with a specialized Money in the Bank briefcase. Imagine if Eva Marie captured the briefcase and played up her diva persona by carrying around a Louis Vuitton briefcase with a mirror inside when she opened it up.

WWE has established enough female contenders for six women to compete in a Money in the Bank match. Better yet, they could even do so through qualifying matches with lesser Superstars. The intrigue behind the historic event would help draw viewers to the WWE Network and pay-per-view.
