Athletes Who Aren't Afraid to Rip Other Jocks
LeSean McCoy called Lou Williams a clown, and Russell Westbrook burned Charlie Villanueva hard.
Some athletes are more open with their disdain for their peers than others. Here are a few who have said how they really feel lately, professional courtesy be damned.
To be fair, in some instances, the shade was provoked. Still, it doesn't seem prudent to get on these athletes' bad sides no matter the circumstances.
Matt Barnes
It's not news that Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes doesn't like San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. In 2015, Barnes called the QB a "hoe" in an Instagram post amid rumors (NSFW language) involving the QB and Barnes' ex-wife.
In May, TMZ asked Barnes about Kaepernick and Derek Fisher, a former NBA player and coach who is actually dating that same ex-wife. Barnes responded, "I'll f--k both of 'em up" (albeit with a smile).
In January, Barnes also called Fisher out on social media for "being a snake."
Odell Beckham and Josh Norman
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has had beef with Washington cornerback Josh Norman since a December game in which things got chippy between the two, to put it mildly.
Asked to describe Beckham in one word on ESPN's SportsNation in March, Norman said "OK," per Bleacher Report's Kyle Newport. Beckham responded on Twitter:
And then:
Russell Westbrook
In December, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook was asked about former teammate Reggie Jackson (who requested a trade and now plays for the Detroit Pistons). Westbrook responded, "Who?" per Fox Sports.
In April, Dallas Mavericks forward Charlie Villanueva interrupted Westbrook's pregame warm-up routine, and Westbrook later said, "That's for the guys that don't play. You gotta do something," per Royce Young of ESPN.com.
Villanueva kept up the pregame taunting, so Westbrook addressed it again after his Thunder defeated the Mavs in their first-round playoff series:

Conor McGregor
Ahead of his loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196, Conor McGregor called prospective future opponent Rafael Dos Anjos an "absolute bum."
And amid rumors of a possible McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match, McGregor tweeted:
McGregor also said of Mayweather, "He needs me; I don't need him," in an interview with ESPN (via Steven Ruiz of For the Win).
Floyd Mayweather
Speaking of Mayweather, he's no slouch in the trash-talk department. He once called Manny Pacquiao "broke and desperate":
After boxer and former friend Adrien Broner called Mayweather's company "Hateweather Promotions," Mayweather unleashed. Per Brian Campbell of ESPN.com, he said, "He said 'Hateweather Promotions,' so I'm still trying to find out what the AB stands for. 'Always Broke?'"
He also called Broner a "free TV-type fighter" and a "snake."
Roy Halladay
In January, the Baseball Hall of Fame decided yet again to exclude players with a connection to performance-enhancing drugs (proven or not). Former MLB pitcher Roy Halladay tweeted his reaction, and he named names:
It wasn't the first time Halladay directed an anti-PEDs tweet at a player:
Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo ripped his own teammates after a loss to Atletico Madrid in February.
The Real Madrid forward told reporters, per Dermot Corrigan of ESPNFC, "It annoys me that they say that Cristiano has dropped his level, and that is why Madrid have dropped their level. If they were all at my level we would be first." He later backtracked, but man. That's cold.
Cris Cyborg
Brazilian MMA fighter Cris "Cyborg" Justino won her first UFC fight handedly earlier this month, adding fuel to long-standing talk about a matchup against former bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
Cyborg and Rousey have hurled insults in both directions over the years, but Rousey has fallen out of the spotlight a bit since her November loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193.
In March, Cyborg called Rousey a "coward with a weak mind" and added, "She continues as mature as a five-year-old," per Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting.
These 2 AHL Players
Liam O'Brien and Tom Sestito play for different teams in the American Hockey League, and things got adversarial during a game in early May. Sestito didn't hold back about O'Brien in the postgame interview, and O'Brien didn't hold back Twitter:
LeSean McCoy
Like many sports fans did during Kobe Bryant's last NBA game in April, Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy took to Twitter. McCoy expressed admiration for Bryant but also called his Los Angeles Lakers teammates, including D'Angelo Russell and Lou Williams, "clowns":
