The spotlight up top will be on Bundesliga attacker Bobby Wood in Altidore's absence, after the latter was ruled out with hamstring issues.
Wood must prove he can make the jump after thriving in Germany's second tier for most of this season, per Goal's Stefan Coerts: "Wood is coming off an impressive season for German side Union Berlin, scoring 17 goals for the second-division club. He will spend next season in the Bundesliga after signing with Hamburg earlier this week."
But the real strength of this squad lies in midfield. In particular, Nantes midfielder Alejandro Bedoya is one to watch.
A creative player who can operate anywhere along the final third, the 29-year-old has attracted interest from England's Premier League this season, according to MailOnline's Simon Jones.
Bedoya can supply chances for Wood, but he'll need Alfredo Morales to anchor midfield and get him the ball. Fortunately, it's a job the Ingolstadt holding midfielder can handle.
Defensively, Premier League trio DeAndre Yedlin, Geoff Cameron and Matt Miazga will be under the microscope. Klinsmann needs a defence he can trust at the Copa, and he'll have to rely on talent from England's top flight to help provide one.
If there's one player from the opposition who might concern Cameron and Co., it's San Antonio FC attacker Manolo Sanchez. The 24-year-old advanced midfielder is a Philadelphia native who also appeared for the New York Red Bulls last year, per Dave Zeitlin of the MLS official site.
But Sanchez will appear for Puerto Rico, according to Lorne Chan of San Antonio's official site.
While he may generate some attention, most of the focus will be on how Klinsmann is shaping his squad ahead of the Copa.
