Gujarat Lions vs. Mumbai Indians
Gujarat Lions can seal their place in the knockout rounds with a victory over Mumbai but will need other results to go their way if they are defeated.
With a huge amount on the line for both sides, it is likely to be a tense occasion, and the match could be swayed by a key individual contribution from one of the many stars set to be on show.
Both sides go into Saturday's match on the back of key victories. Gujarat's last result was a bounce-back, six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders that followed their 144-run drubbing at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Having missed the RCB clash, skipper Suresh Raina returned and scored a half-century, but Dwayne Smith was the key man as the Lions restricted KKR to just 124.
The West Indian all-rounder took four wickets for just eight runs in his four overs in one of the best displays of this year's tournament, per ESPN Cricinfo's Bharath Seervi:
The Gujarat bowling attack—which also includes the likes of Praveen Kumar, Dhawal Kulkarni and Dwayne Bravo—will need to be at their best again on Saturday as Mumbai's batting lineup is in good nick.
In their last outing, they beat Delhi Daredevils by 80 runs after posting a total of 206 for four.
Opening duo Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill both made telling contributions, but it was Krunal Pandya's 37-ball 86 that was the star knock, per Alt Cricket:
"Take a bow, Krunal Pandya. That's a #whipsaw knock. Easy to dismiss IPL innings but this shows pure class.
— Alt Cricket (@AltCricket) May 15, 2016"
In Jos Buttler and Kieron Pollard, MI have further big hitters who can be punishing, and control will be key for Gujarat.
The Lions themselves have more than Raina in their batting lineup, of course, with Smith, Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch and Dinesh Karthik completing a formidable top order.
But in Mitchell McClenaghan, Mumbai have the tournament's top wicket-taker, while Jasprit Bumrah is also in handy form having taken three for 13 last time out.
Both teams have immense quality in both their batting and bowling departments and are quite evenly matched, thus it should be a tight game.
Given the pressure that is now set to be on either side to earn a win, it will all come down to experience and temperament on the day.
