John Calipari Says Plan Is for Kentucky to Be His Final Coaching Position
Kentucky head basketball coach John Calipari revealed Monday morning he intends for his current position to be the final stop of his career.
"My plan is to coach here for the rest of my life," he told Matt Jones of KSR Radio. "I want this to be my final coaching position.”
He also revealed to Jones he wants to improve upon the overall atmosphere of Rupp Arena and that he intends to lead Kentucky past UCLA for the most all-time titles. He also would like to see an NBA All-Star Game roster that is half comprised of Wildcats.

He'll likely receive little opposition in his desire to remain at Kentucky for as long as he coaches, at least based on his early returns at the program.
Since taking over as the Wildcats head coach in 2009, he's led them to four regular-season SEC titles, four SEC tournament titles, six NCAA tournament berths, four berths in the Final Four and an NCAA title in the 2011-12 season. He has gone 217-47 overall in his time at Kentucky.
Catching UCLA in titles certainly isn't out of the question, either. The Bruins have 11 titles overall, while Kentucky is in second place on that list with eight. The Wildcats have been narrowing the gap. UCLA's last title came in 1995; Kentucky has won three titles since.
Given Calipari's incredible success as a recruiter and his ability to mesh together teams with multiple superstars, it's unlikely the program will ever desire a divorce. While the NBA will almost assuredly continue to flirt with Calipari, his comments Monday are yet another indication he won't be allured by the professional game and will remain at Rupp Arena.
