Koeman, Everton Agree on Terms
Tuesday, June 7
Adam Blackmore of BBC Sport reported on Tuesday that Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has agreed to become Everton's new manager.
"Koeman is edging closer to taking the reins at Everton, with a compensation fee in the region of £5 million understood to have been discussed," reported Simon Peach of Press Association Sport (via MailOnline) on Monday.
On June 4, Rob Draper of the Mail on Sunday reported, "Koeman has agreed terms with [Everton]. Only compensation needs to be agreed with [Southampton] now." Draper added:
"Everton will have to pay up the final year of Koeman’s contract at Southampton, understood to be around £3.5m, but Koeman is keen for the deal to be agreed before he goes on holiday next week.
He intends to start work at Everton the following week.
"
On May 25, Alex Smith of the Mirror reported the Dutch manager would turn down the Toffees and sign a new two-year deal at St. Mary's Stadium after switching agents.
It's been evident since the departure of Martinez that Koeman has been Everton's top target, so the club will be delighted to be closing in on him.
Given Southampton finished in sixth position last term, with the Toffees in 11th, this may seem a curious move for the Dutchman at first glance. But Koeman seems to have been enticed by a lucrative pay packet, a squad bristling with young talent and the prospect of a bright future for the nine-time English champions.

Rumours De Boer would take over Everton developed when the Premier League club confirmed Martinez's departure and the Dutchman left the Amsterdam club shortly after.
His agent, Guido Albers, endorsed the idea of his client potentially joining the Toffees, saying: "He would love to join a club like Everton or Valencia."
However, De Boer expressed uncertainty about his next role, per BBC Sport: "What I will do, I don't know yet."
