It was the eighth pole win of Truex's career, his first of the season and his first at Kansas Speedway.
Fox Sports: NASCAR showed his final qualifying run, which secured the top spot:
Truex headlined a top-three sweep for Joe Gibbs Racing. Matt Kenseth will join him in the front row, and Denny Hamlin will be in third.
Hendrick Motorsports' Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn't have an answer for JGR's dominance:
He'll be starting in 22nd after he was cut in the second round of qualifying.
Three-time Kansas Speedway winner Kevin Harvick didn't have a very good qualifying either as he was cut after the first round.
He'll start in 26 as he spoke with FS1 after his day:
After the Camping World Truck Series practice just hours before, there was some wear on the track, and with decreasing daylight as the sun went down, the track also began to cool down and get slicker.
It almost caused a lot of trouble for Kyle Busch, via Fox Sports 1:
He not only saved it, but he also excelled in qualifying, as he will start in sixth Saturday.
Last year's winner, Joey Logano, will have some work to do if he wants to repeat, as he'll be starting in 14th.
The race will take place under the lights at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, so drivers will have to contend with a track that doesn't have as much grip as it would in the daytime. That means strategies will have to change compared to qualifying.
Expect more conservative runs out of the drivers, especially in a long race. When the racers start getting closer to the checkered flag, though, we should see an increase in aggression and possibly some cautions.
