Manchester United Transfer News: Harry Kane Blow Amid Contract Talk, Top Rumours
Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly make star striker Harry Kane the highest-paid player in the club’s history to ensure he won’t leave for Manchester United. Meanwhile, Valencia may be forced into selling star midfielder Andre Gomes to make up for lost revenue.
According to the Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan, Kane signed a new deal with Spurs as recently as February 2015, but after yet another impressive campaign in front of goal, he’s in line for a significant pay rise.

The England international is set to double his £50,000-per-week wages, becoming Spurs’ highest-paid player. He’s not expected to put pen to paper before the start of the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament in June, but both parties have little doubt an agreement will be reached, per Keegan.
As shared by Euro 2016's official Twitter account, Kane has been in spectacular form of late:
Per Keegan, United have been linked with Kane for some time, although a move never looked likely during the 2015-16 season.
The Red Devils failed to take a step forward but did find two forwards who could develop into major stars, as Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have been two of the club’s top performers this season.

Tottenham battled for the Premier League title for the bulk of the campaign and will feature in next year’s UEFA Champions League, and none of the team’s top stars are expected to leave White Hart Lane this summer.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino is said to have agreed to a new contract, per Keegan, who reported new deals are also being prepared for the likes of Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli.
Spurs are on the rise, something Kane also seems to believe, as evidenced by this comment after the 2-2 draw against Chelsea, via Kevin Palmer of the Sunday World:
Kane’s reported new wages of £100,000 per week would still be low for a striker who has been among the Premier League’s most prolific in the last two seasons. But at this early stage of his career, being in the right situation will likely trump what he earns, and the decision to stay in north London is the right one.
Meanwhile, Marca (h/t Daily Express’ James Cambridge) reported Valencia may be forced to sell star midfielder Gomes to make up the revenue the club is set to lose by missing out on European competition next season.

Gomes, who reportedly has a £86 million release clause, has been strongly linked with United and Juventus, and the 22-year-old seems likely to go. Valencia don’t expect a team to meet the full clause, but the club will hold out for a significant fee.
Here’s a look at some of Gomes’ highlights:
According to Sport Witness, Gomes’ value has gone through the roof in recent weeks, with Chelsea and Manchester City also said to be interested in the Portugal international.
Sport Witness pondered whether Valencia’s reported asking price is a realistic one:
"Super Deporte say Valencia are looking at the possibility of selling Gomes in the summer, which would allow them to rebuild their team, but his asking price of €65m could be a stumbling block. It's very unlikely Juventus will pay that sort of money for Gomes, and it remains to be seen if the Premier League clubs would also want to pay €65m.
The perceived value of Gomes has rocketed over recent weeks, and may be losing touch with any reality. Gomes is a talented footballer who turns 23 years of age in July. He has age on his side but hasn't set La Liga alight this season and hasn't really managed to steer a struggling team on to a better path.
"
Gomes’ versatile skill set doesn’t result in a lot of impressive statistics, but his high work rate and solid distribution would be an asset to most teams.
According to Tuttosport (h/t Football Italia), Juventus and Valencia have already scheduled a meeting to discuss a transfer, so the Red Devils would have some catching up to do if they decide to pursue Gomes this summer.
