IPL Results 2016: Latest Scores, Points Table and T20 Cricket Fixtures
Kings XI Punjab stunned Indian Premier League leaders Gujarat Lions on Sunday to chalk up an impressive 23-run victory in Rajkot.
Punjab openers Murali Vijay and Marcus Stoinis laid an excellent foundation with the bat after the Lions won the toss and opted to bowl, and even though the rest of the Kings order weren’t so impressive, 154 all out proved enough for two points.
Axar Patel ran riot with the ball against Gujarat’s talented batsmen, taking a hat-trick before the Lions signed off at 131 for nine after 20 overs.
The win wasn’t enough to lift Kings off the bottom of the IPL table, but just their second victory all season will give them plenty of confidence heading into the second half of the campaign.
Later on Sunday, Mumbai Indians moved up to second in the IPL standings courtesy of a routine eight-wicket victory over Rising Pune Supergiants.
Rohit Sharma stole the show with a quite magnificent performance with the bat, as his unbeaten 85 was enough to see Mumbai chase down RPS's 159-5 total with more than an over to spare.

Gujarat Lions vs. Kings XI Punjab
Kings XI Punjab (154 all out) bt. Gujarat Lions (131 for nine) by 23 runs.

Gujarat came into Sunday’s clash with just one defeat to their name in IPL 2016, while Kings XI Punjab had only won one match all season. So you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Lions were going to ease to victory.
Kings didn’t get the memo, though, and opening pair Vijay and Stoinis were ruthless with the bat throughout the powerplay. At 59 for no loss after the powerplay, Kings were looking good, but just two overs later, they’d lost three wickets—Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Shaun Marsh sent packing.
The newly appointed captain quickly brought up the half century, with a well-executed four taking him over the 50 mark, per Kings XI Punjab:
Vijay’s wicket finally fell at the hands of Shivil Kaushik, who took three wickets for 20 runs, before David Miller and Wriddhiman Saha both posted scores in the 30s to keep Punjab moving.
KC Cariappa was bowled out to put an end to Kings’ innings, yet a chase of 154 certainly seemed in reach for the league leaders.
However, they simply never got going with the bat, as Mohit Sharma’s early dismissal of danger man Brendon McCullum set the tone for the innings.
With Gujarat on 38 for two, Patel produced a moment of pure brilliance. His stunning hat-trick gave Dwayne Smith, Dinesh Karthik and Dwayne Bravo their marching orders and sent the Rajkot spectators wild.
It was something of an overdue treble in the IPL, as ESPN Cricinfo’s Bharath Seervi revealed Patel’s was the first hat-trick in seven years:
The Lions simply couldn’t recover from there, and although James Faulkner put together an impressive knock of 32 to make Kings sweat, it wasn’t quite enough, as Gujarat fell short by 23 runs.
Gujarat will be looking to get back to winning ways when they return to action on Tuesday, but they’ll have their work cut out once against the in-form Delhi Daredevils.
Kings, meanwhile, take on Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday hoping to pick up from where they left off and surge up the IPL ladder.
Mumbai Indians vs. Rising Pune Supergiants (159-5)
Mumbai Indians (161-2) bt. Rising Pune Supergiants (159-5) by eight wickets

Mumbai Indians came into Sunday's clash in excellent form, fresh off the back of an emphatic six-wicket triumph over Kolkata Knight Riders last time out.
In that game, the Indians chased down a 174 total, and they looked like they'd need to hit another big total in the early stages against RPS.
Saurabh Tiwary and Steve Smith made an excellent partnership, with the former chalking up a half-century in style. However, when Smith lost his wicket, things started to unravel.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell McClenaghan were finding dot balls far too easy to come by, and when Bumrah took out MS Dhoni as he started to pick up momentum, Mumbai looked in a strong position.

Supergiants eventually posted 159-5 after 20 overs, yet they still would have fancied their chances on a pitch that was turning.
However, they forgot about the brilliance of Sharma.
The RPS opener was slogging away everything that came his way, and it wasn't long before he was over the half-century mark. That's nothing new, though, as ESPNcricinfo revealed that he's found 50s very easy to come by this season:
RPS did manage to take the wickets of Parthiv Patel and Ambati Rayuda, yet all that succeeded in doing was slowing Sharma down very slightly.
The Indian hit a massive six to bring the curtain down on the match and put Mumbai on 161-2.
After getting off to a poor start in IPL 2016, Mumbai now look the real deal and are closing in on Gujarat Lions at the top of the tree.
Next up for Sharma and Co. is a meeting with Surisers Hyderabad on May 8, while RPS do battle with the Delhi Daredevils on Thursday.
