Mauricio Pochettino Verbally Agrees 2-Year Tottenham Extension Amid Exit Rumours

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has announced he plans to extend his contract with the north London club to 2021.

His current deal is set to run to 2019, but Spurs have seemingly persuaded him to sign on for an extra two years, per PA Dugout:

The Argentinian has had a major impact at White Hart Lane since taking over in 2014, leading a genuine Premier League title challenge this campaign while developing an exciting young side.

As a result, he has been linked with moves to both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, but he said he does not feel the urge to leave Tottenham, per BBC Sport: "It was an easy decision when you feel the love of the people and the potential of the club is massive, so why change? We create a good atmosphere on the training ground and I think we can achieve big things in the future. I believe in this project and this club. I want to stay here."

The news will come as a huge relief to all involved with Spurs, as Pochettino is in the process of building a fantastic team.

Spurs will be in the UEFA Champions League next season and should again challenge for the Premier League title, having thrived this term with a young core of English players.

Harry Kane has been excellent again, and Pochettino has brought in the likes of Dele Alli and Eric Dier.

Indeed, the successful development of young talent is surely part of what has drawn the eye of United. Bleacher Report's Dean Jones previously suggested Pochettino, 44, could be an ideal replacement for Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal:

However, with the former Southampton boss having committed his future to Spurs, they can start making plans for next season.

Tottenham look set to fall just short of title glory this season—Leicester City need only one more win to clinch the Premier League—but with some astute summer additions, they could win a first league title in over 55 years in 2016-17.
