Comparing Sergio Aguero's 2014/15 Stats to His 2015/16 Numbers
Injuries have once again affected Sergio Aguero this season—but the Manchester City striker continues to demonstrate his brilliance in front of goal.
The Argentinian is one of the finest in Europe in his position, with Luis Suarez and Robert Lewandowski perhaps the only out-and-out strikers capable of challenging him. City have a world star on their hands, and he looks set to give his best years to the club.
Right now, he is giving his all to ensure City finish inside the top four in the Premier League and progress to the UEFA Champions League final, while trying to overtake Harry Kane and win the Golden Boot. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he managed it.

Kane is currently on 24 league goals, with Aguero just behind on 23. Aguero’s goals-to-game ratio is better, though, having played seven games less. Aguero has scored 0.82 goals per game, whereas Kane has 0.69.

In fact, in terms of minutes-to-goals ratio in Premier League history, Aguero has the highest rate, with 0.68 goals per game enough to see him level with the great Thierry Henry.
The fact that Ruud Van Nistelrooy, one of the finest poachers the Premier League has ever seen, scored at a slower rate than the City star, at 0.63 goals per game, shows just how lethal Aguero is. Aguero has much more to his game than the Dutchman, who was primarily an 18-yard-box player, yet he still finds the net more often.

He has everything a striker would want. He's incredibly quick, particularly over the first five yards where his explosive pace takes him away from defenders. He possesses superb strength that allows him to battle with players much larger than himself, and he has a very low centre of gravity that means his balance is remarkable. Knocking him off the ball often seems impossible.
The best comparison to make is with Romario, the great Brazilian striker and star of the 1994 World Cup. They both possess similar raw attributes and an insatiable appetite for goals.
But how do Aguero’s figures for this season compare to last?
Firstly, he’s scoring more often, which, given he carries the goalscoring burden at City, is the most important statistic. His figure of 0.82 goals per game for the current campaign is a jump from the 0.79 he managed in 2014/15, which was still a Premier League high.
In the recent game with Newcastle United, he scored his 100th Premier League goal, and he has 135 in all competitions for City. He's surely now considered the finest striker the club has ever had.
He created slightly more chances last season, though. According to Squawka, Aguero made 33 chances in 33 games last season, whereas this season he’s dipped to 24 in 28.
His passing accuracy remains the same—a respectably high 85 percent—and his shooting accuracy is up slightly, from 54 percent to 58.

The statistics just underline what we already know: Aguero is one of the best all-round strikers the Premier League has ever seen. Although much of his work is done inside the 18-yard area, he is also a fine team player, capable of dropping off and linking play. He's selfish—but only at the right times.
It seems absurd a player of his calibre is still to win the PFA Player of the Year award. The most lethal striker in Premier League history, what more does he have to do to be properly recognised?
He's vital to City, and new manager Pep Guardiola will be excited to work with such an outstanding talent.
