Ashley Young Reveals Louis van Gaal Demanded Change of Dressing Room Music
Picking a playlist to appease colleagues is never an easy task, and Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was not happy with the choice of music when he took over at the club in 2014, according to Ashley Young, the team’s winger-cum-dressing room DJ.
Speaking with Footballers Lives, Young revealed he’s taken over from Patrice Evra as the team’s music man, although he has had to cater for the tastes of the 64-year-old Dutchman.
“There's quite a lot of songs that I’ll put on that everyone will listen to,” he said. “But the manager, when he first came in, I had a playlist on and he kind of shouted Darren Fletcher over and was like, 'I don’t like this.' So we had to change it! So I thought, 'Well, what will everyone listen to?' House and funky house.”

The 30-year-old also revealed that certain players aren’t shy of getting up before games. “When I put on a good tune there'll be some that will get up and dance to it—in their own way,” he added.

In an interview with MUTV (h/t Ben Grounds of the MailOnline) last year, Young said, “I've been told by the manager I can only play funky house or house.”
The winger's campaign has been plagued by injuries, having previously proven himself as an effective wide man and a versatile squad member.
With Van Gaal’s future at the football club seemingly precarious—Jose Mourinho has been touted as a potential replacement for the coach, per Jeremy Cross of the Daily Star—the United stars could find themselves with a more eclectic selection of tunes in the dressing room come 2016-17.
